Your role
The Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) is seeking an exceptional digital, data and cyber leader to serve as Chief Digital Information Officer. This is a rare opportunity to drive whole‐of‐department transformation in one of NSW's largest and most impactful public sector agencies. As CDIO, you will shape enterprise‐wide ICT, data and cyber strategies, uplift digital capability, and ensure technology enables safer, fairer and more connected services for communities across NSW. Working at the centre of a complex, high‐demand environment, you will lead a large ICT function and influence strategic decision‐making at the highest levels of government.
What you'll do
* Lead the development and execution of DCJ's enterprise ICT, data and cyber security strategies, ensuring alignment with NSW Government directives and industry best practice.
* Provide strategic direction for state‐wide ICT services, ensuring stability, security, resilience and effective governance across all business‐critical technology environments.
* Drive DCJ's digital footprint by optimising digital products, services and experiences to improve client, community and employee engagement.
* Identify and embed emerging technologies, including AI, automation and advanced analytics, to improve operational effectiveness and service delivery across the DCJ portfolio.
* Build and lead a high‐performing ICT division responsible for cyber security, data governance, digital platforms, enterprise architecture and major ICT programs.
* Oversee ICT investment planning, budget management and resource optimisation, ensuring maximum return on investment and strong financial stewardship.
* Influence decision‐making at executive and ministerial levels with authoritative strategic advice on technology, cyber risk, digital transformation and innovation.
* Build strong relationships across government agencies, industry partners and vendors to deliver outcomes, manage risk, and align ICT initiatives with whole‐of‐government priorities.
What we're looking for
* Extensive senior leadership experience delivering ICT, digital, data and cyber strategies across large, complex and high‐risk organisations.
* Deep working knowledge of enterprise ICT environments, including cyber security, data governance, enterprise architecture, digital service management and technology risk.
* Exceptional strategic and commercial acumen, with the ability to oversee multimillion‐dollar programs, navigate competing priorities, and deliver organisation‐wide transformation.
* Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary ICT functions, inspire teams, and cultivate a culture of innovation, accountability and continuous improvement.
* Strong negotiation and influencing capability, with experience shaping executive and ministerial decision‐making in complex, politically sensitive environments.
* Experience building high‐value partnerships across government, vendors, regulators and industry to solve complex challenges and deliver innovative solutions.
* Tertiary qualifications in ICT or a related discipline, or extensive related experience delivering enterprise‐level technology operations and transformation.
