WHO YOU ARE
This Darwin-based role will suit a commercially driven construction professional with a strong foundation in engineering principles and contract management. You understand how design intent, site conditions, and programme interact with cost, risk, and compliance—and you know how to lead teams through that complexity to deliver clear commercial results.
- Degree qualified in Construction Law, Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline
- Proven 10 experience delivering the commercial function on large-scale building or infrastructure projects
- Deep understanding of construction contracts (AS, GC21, or equivalent) and relevant legislation
- Skilled in procurement, tendering, subcontractor management, and contract negotiation
- Experienced in managing project budgets, cash flow, and financial reporting from pre-contract to final account
- Capable of identifying, assessing, and mitigating commercial risk across design and delivery phases
- Technically competent with systems such as Jobpac, Aconex, and Microsoft Excel
- Strong communication and leadership skills with a collaborative, solutions-focused approach
WHAT YOU'LL DO
As Commercial Manager, you'll lead all commercial activities across a technically complex project, ensuring that contractual obligations are met, risks are managed, and project performance is commercially sound.
- Oversee head contract administration, progress claims, variations, and notices
- Manage procurement strategy and execution across all trade packages
- Support design development and project planning with cost and contractual input
- Monitor project costs, maintain rolling forecasts, and produce monthly financial reports
- Review subcontractor claims and variations, ensuring compliance and cost alignment
- Ensure accurate commercial documentation, records, and audit trails are maintained
- Provide commercial guidance to project managers, site teams, and design consultants
- Mentor and support Contracts Administrators and junior staff
- Represent DCOH in negotiations and formal communications with clients, subcontractors, and consultants
