About the Role
Green Light is seeking an experienced Storage & Backup Architect to support enterprise data protection and storage environments on a short-term engagement.
This role will focus on architecture, policy design, replication strategies, and platform alignment across backup and storage technologies.
The client is open to strong architects or senior engineers stepping into an architectural role, particularly those with deep understanding of backup concepts and the ability to quickly adapt to new platforms such as HYCU.
You will work closely with infrastructure, operations, and platform teams to ensure backup and recovery solutions are well-designed, scalable, and aligned with business and operational requirements.
Responsibilities
* Design and review storage and backup architectures, ensuring resilience, scalability, and recoverability.
* Define and govern backup policies, replication strategies, and retention models.
* Provide architectural guidance across enterprise backup platforms (HYCU, Networker, or equivalent).
* Support and advise on storage platform integration, including replication and performance considerations.
* Review and validate physical storage and backup setups, including Fibre Channel (FC) connectivity.
* Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to translate requirements into practical solutions.
* Provide architectural input into backup tooling adoption and platform improvements.
* Assist with troubleshooting complex backup or replication issues from an architectural perspective.
* Produce and maintain architecture documentation, standards, and design artefacts.
* Act as a technical escalation point for storage and backup-related decisions.
Requirements
* Strong experience in storage and backup architecture within enterprise environments.
* Solid understanding of backup policies, replication models, recovery objectives (RPO/RTO), and data protection best practices.
* Experience with enterprise backup solutions (HYCU, Dell EMC Networker, or similar).
* Good knowledge of storage platforms and concepts, including physical connectivity (Fibre Channel).
* Ability to assess existing environments and recommend improvements or optimisations.
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder communication skills.
* Comfortable working in short-term, outcome-focused engagements.
Desired Qualifications
* Hands-on or architectural exposure to HYCU (highly regarded but not mandatory).
* Experience with Pure Storage platforms.
* Background in enterprise or mission-critical infrastructure environments.
* Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new tools and technologies.
* Relevant storage or backup certifications will be highly regarded.
