Your impact
Reporting to the Director, Legal Counsel, Australia, in the Perth-based position of Specialist, Legal Counsel, you will primarily provide legal support to Newmont's Australian business and operations, with a focus in the areas of procurement and general commercial law.
As part of our team you will also
Negotiate and advise on a range of procurement and project contracts, supporting Newmont's Supply Chain function
Provide general legal advice and services across a broad range of other areas, primarily in relation to general commercial and corporate law, but may include advising on a broad range of matters including commercial disputes and litigation, corporate governance, intellectual property, environmental and regulatory matters, including investigations, Traditional Owner engagement (including cultural heritage matters), land access and approvals
Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts relating to the areas referred to above
Assist with major transactions from time to time, supporting the Corporate Legal team
Assist in the identification and management of legal risk to Newmont Australia's business through the provision of prompt and practical legal advice
Work with and assist other members of the APAC legal team to provide legal advice and manage large or complex legal matters
Contribute to the continuous improvement of the APAC legal team's standards and procedures, guidance material, legal templates and other relevant documents
Monitor developments in the law affecting Newmont's Australian operations and provide advice on relevant legislative and policy developments which may impact operations
Provide education and training to staff on relevant legal matters.
Prerequisites for your success in the role
A law degree and be admitted to legal practice in Western Australia with 5+ years post qualification experience
Demonstrated experience as a practicing commercial lawyer (i.e. private practice or in-house) with exposure to the resources industry
Knowledge across a broad range of legal issues, laws and regulations applicable within a regional framework of a globally operating entity and an interest and aptitude in working across a diverse range of legal issues
Proven collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills with ability to influence and manage change
An ability to communicate clearly and confidently across all levels of work
A high standard of work is required, with accuracy and efficiency expected and a strong attention to detail

Your work environment
Currently Newmont operates under a WFH/office-based (hybrid) work model. This position is based out of Newmont's Subiaco office and will suit applicants currently living in Perth, Western Australia.
