AKJ Services are a local Darwin civil construction company that undertake a wide range of civil projects throughout the Northern Territory. We are seeking a trade-qualified Heavy Diesel Mechanic with a minimum of 5 years of experience to join our maintenance division.
This role is designed for a self-motivated mechanic who takes ownership of their work and prefers an environment focused on results rather than micromanagement.
About You
To be considered for this opportunity, you will need:
* Trade Qualification in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology
* 5+ years of post-apprenticeship experience in heavy diesel, specifically within the earthmoving or heavy transport sectors
* Valid Driver's License (HR licence highly advantageous) and Forklift Ticket
* Construction Induction (White Card) and the ability to obtain a DCAC Pass
* Proven ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize repairs in high-pressure environments
* Positive, solutions-focused attitude with the ability to communicate effectively with site supervisors and team members
* Must be able to pass a drug and alcohol test and pre-employment medical
What You Will Be Doing
This role will be responsible for the effective, efficient maintenance and repair of our civil/construction machinery, trucks and site equipment in our workshop and at times at various sites across the NT, which may include remote sites accessible by air travel only. In addition, this role will be expected to proactively uphold and comply with all Safety, Environmental Standards and HR guidelines.
Primary Responsibilities
* Diagnostic & Fault Finding: Execute advanced troubleshooting on hydraulic, electrical, and powertrain systems to minimize machine downtime.
* Maintenance Programs: Lead scheduled maintenance and major component overhauls.
* Autonomy: Manage your assigned tasks and workshop flow independently; we value experienced tradespeople who can work effectively without constant supervision.
* Project Support: Availability to support local projects or occasional weekend work as dictated by specific operational requirements.
* Operational Safety: Maintain strict adherence to OHS standards and contribute to a safe workshop and field environment.
Position Requirements
* Flexibility: Standard hours are Monday to Friday. Applicants should note that weekend work may be required on an occasional basis
* Competency: Demonstrated experience in structured maintenance programs and complex fault finding
