The Opportunities:
The Waves Group Limited is seeking to strengthen its Finance Team by offering two full-time opportunities:
* Accountant – for an experienced and qualified professional
* Junior Accountant – for a motivated individual currently studying an Accountancy or Business degree
Accountant
As the Accountant, you will be responsible for overseeing accounting functions across the entire organisation. You will work closely with management and staff across our Bundaberg, Caloundra, and Elliott Heads operations. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, you will play a key role in managing the group's financial reporting and accounting processes.
Junior Accountant
As the Junior Accountant, you will support the Finance Team across a broad range of accounting functions while developing your skills in an expanding and hands-on role. This position is ideal for someone eager to learn and grow their career within a supportive finance environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting Operations:
Day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, processing transactions and bank reconciliations.
Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
Month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, review, and assist in the preparation of financial reports.
Maintain and improve accounting systems and procedures.
Compliance and Control:
Assist with external audits, ensuring the organization's financial practices comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
Stay updated on industry changes.
Financial Analysis and Reporting:
Use accounting and reporting software to manage financial data and reporting.
Contribute to the presentation of accurate financial statements in compliance with relevant accounting standards.
Oversee the general ledger, ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately and promptly.
Assist in ensuring timely and accurate lodgement of legislative requirements – including payroll tax, business activity statement and annual work cover returns.
Identify opportunities for improving financial processes, controls, and reporting systems to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Collaborate with other department heads to offer financial guidance and support.
Qualifications & Skills:
Accountant
* Proven experience in financial and corporate accounting.
* Strong working knowledge of Xero and related accounting systems.
* Thorough understanding of Australian accounting standards, tax regulations, and ATO reporting requirements.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships across all levels of the organisation.
* Tertiary qualifications in Business or Accounting (mandatory).
Junior Accountant
* Currently studying towards a tertiary qualification in Business or Accounting.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* A genuine desire to learn, develop, and grow within the role.
