Job Title: Independent Director
The Wine Tasmania Board is seeking an independent director to assist with strategic oversight and input.
We represent the island's wine producers, funded by their voluntary membership. Our vision is to build Tasmania's reputation as a unique cool-climate wine region, with demand for our wine exceeding current production.
Our key role is to grow awareness of Tasmania's wine and its producers, offering professional support and representation of their interests.
With 125 member wine producers across various business models, sizes, locations, ages, styles, and personalities, we have a strong focus on top-quality and sustainable wine production.
The Tasmanian wine sector has a strategically built strong position, prioritising value over volume and quality over quantity. This has supported growing global demand for our wines, achieving high prices and strong growth in vineyards, wineries, and wine tourism.
Tasmania's wine production contributes more than 6% to Australia's total value, despite producing less than 1% of the country's annual wine.
Based on research modelling, the Tasmanian wine sector is forecast to quadruple in size within the next decade, becoming the state's most significant economic driver. The Tasmanian Government has provided funding support through a multi-year market development program.
This presents an opportunity for the island's wine sector, while necessitating careful management of risks associated with accelerated growth. We seek an independent director to assist the Board in influencing factors to ensure the sector's continued success during this period of growth.
The Board operates under a Board Charter and Skills Matrix. Established in 2006, Wine Tasmania is a non-profit private company limited by guarantee.
We are seeking applications for an initial two-year appointment, with the possibility of renewal. With a focus on marketing within the domestic market and export market development, specialised skills and experience in complementary areas are a priority.
The Board meets every 6-8 weeks, alternating between in-person meetings and online meetings. Travel costs can be reimbursed for directors.
