Role Overview: The Software Engineering Manager will be responsible for leading and mentoring a team of software engineers, overseeing the full software development lifecycle, and ensuring the timely delivery of secure, robust, and compliant software products. This includes shaping technical strategy, driving modern DevOps practices, and ensuring alignment with Queensland Health ICT standards. This is a hands-on leadership position requiring deep technical expertise, strong people management skills, and the ability to deliver complex software initiatives across cloud platforms and digital service lines. Key Responsibilities: Lead, coach and develop a team of software engineers in a collaborative, high-performance environment; Oversee all stages of the software development lifecycle - from solution design through to deployment and support; Drive secure coding practices in line with Essential 8, OWASP, and other relevant standards; Guide architectural and design decisions, ensuring alignment with best practices and Queensland Health frameworks; Lead DevOps capability including implementation of CI / CD pipelines, automated testing, and release management; Manage cloud-based development, ensuring effective resource utilisation and cost optimisation; Conduct code and design reviews to uphold technical quality and consistency; Partner with product teams and stakeholders to define scope, timelines, and deliverables; Ensure software projects are compliant with regulatory and security requirements; Manage risks, resource planning, and delivery reporting across multiple concurrent initiatives; Stay current with emerging tools, frameworks, and industry trends to drive continual improvement; and Champion agile practices and support delivery through effective facilitation of ceremonies and sprint planning. About You: The ideal candidate will have: Leadership Experience: At least 3 years managing software development teams, with a focus on mentoring and delivering in agile, complex environments; Hands-on Technical Depth: Over 5 years of coding and solution design experience, ideally in regulated industries such as health or finance; Full-Stack Development Skills: Proficiency with HTML, CSS, JavaScript / TypeScript, React, Next.js, SQL; Cloud Experience: Familiarity with AWS and/or Azure environments, including CI / CD and DevOps tooling; Governance & Security: Strong understanding of secure development practices, quality assurance, and compliance; Delivery Focus: Proven experience managing technical risk, developing accurate estimates, and delivering projects to scope and timeline; Strong Communicator: Ability to liaise with clinical, operational, and technical stakeholders to translate business needs into actionable outcomes; and Qualifications: Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent industry experience). Mandatory Requirements: As this role is within a Queensland Health environment, the successful candidate must: Hold and maintain vaccination status for MMR, varicella, pertussis, hepatitis B and COVID-19 in line with Health Employment Directives; and Be eligible to work in Australia and able to undergo relevant checks and onboarding.
