REFOCUS is seeking a Family Meeting Facilitator to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families to lead their own decision-making through culturally safe, family-led processes.
This role sits within the REFOCUS Family Participation Program and focuses on facilitating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Family-Led Decision Making at critical points of Child Safety involvement. The role is grounded in cultural safety, respect, and independence from statutory decision-making.
REFOCUS is independent from Child Safety. This role does not hold statutory authority, does not act on behalf of the department, and does not participate in decisions about child removal. The facilitator's role is to uphold family voice, cultural identity, and family leadership.
About the role
As a Family Meeting Facilitator, you will
* Work alongside families when they are navigating Child Safety involvement, particularly during Investigation and Assessment and early order phases.
* You will support families to come together with their kin and community, talk openly about concerns, identify strengths, and develop their own plans for their children.
Pay and Conditions
Permanent part-time position
Hourly pay rates range from:
Level 1 PPT1 $35.93 per hour, up to Level 5 PPT2 $52.60 per hour
Subject to Award Rate [MA000100]
Classification level and pay rate are assessed and determined based on qualifications, experience, and demonstrated capability.

* Has strong facilitation and engagement skills
* Can build respectful relationships with families experiencing stress and system involvement
* Understands the importance of cultural safety and family-led practice
* Can maintain clear role boundaries and organisational independence
* Is reflective, organised, and confident with documentation
* Qualifications and experience
* Relevant qualification in human services, community services, social work, or a related field, or working towards
* Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities is highly desirable
* Experience in facilitation, family support, or child and family wellbeing settings is desirable

* Willingness to undertake intensive training in child safety legislation, policies, and procedures
Training and support
REFOCUS provides training in the Family Participation Program framework, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Family-Led Decision Making, and culturally safe practice. Ongoing supervision, mentoring, and reflective practice are core to this role.

* Current Drivers Licence (minimum green P's)
* Ability to work within the 10 Child Safe Standards
