Kids coach

Ideanthro Movement
Instructor
Posted: 15 June
The role

As an Ideanthro Movement Kids Coach, you will predominantly work with children, with additional opportunities to work with adults in the future if you so desire. The children that you work with will include both those with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) and neurotypical children (children without a neurological condition such as ASD). You will conduct primarily 1:1 sessions and may sometimes coach small group sessions (up to six individuals). Sessions will occur at our gym in Oxley.

In this special role you will be directly responsible for helping children to develop a love of movement as well as important social and emotional skills, including a growth mindset. You will follow the approach used by Ideanthro Movement head coaches Jack Mullaly and Adrian Bowman to achieve this. It is a unique role and incorporates elements of natural movement, play‐based learning and mentoring. In many respects the improved health and fitness delivered by the program are side‐effects that occur alongside the social and emotional skills developed.

This service is in great demand for local families and, as we are now at capacity, we're looking for another team member to take on new clients. It's a truly rewarding and fulfilling role as you'll be working closely with children on a weekly basis, encouraging them to step outside of their comfort zone and helping them to achieve things they didn't think were possible. You will have the opportunity to see them grow and evolve into more emotionally and physically capable individuals.

In brief this role is a combination of movement and fitness coaching, mentoring, being a role model and more.

What experience and qualifications do applicants need?

The ideal candidate needs to hold a personal training qualification (Certificate IV in Fitness) or be actively working towards one. We may also consider applicants who hold an Exercise Physiology degree.

The most important traits that we are looking for in an applicant are that you:

  • are a good human being
  • are excited about the role
  • are creative and playful
  • are open to learning about our approach and natural movement

If that sounds like you, we can teach you the movement skills required.

We will also look favourably upon anyone who:

  • has experience working with neurotypical and/or ASD children in any capacity
  • has a reasonable level of physical fitness

If you're excited about the role, let us know!

Other requirements (permits, insurance etc.)

If you don't already have these, you'll need to obtain:

  • Blue Card (working with children)
  • CPR and First Aid certificates
What personal and professional attributes and desires are we looking for?
  • adaptable, patient and empathetic
  • believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to learn and are willing to adapt your methods to suit the individuals you work with
  • excited to be working closely with school‐aged kids, both those with ASD and neurotypical children
  • open to learning natural movement skills (climbing, hanging, crawling, balancing etc.) and play activities (e.g. a variety of games that utilise natural movement skills)
  • creative and have a good imagination
  • serious about making this a long‐term, part‐time or full‐time career and will give this role 100% attention and energy
  • energetic and have a positive mindset
  • have good computer literacy and both verbal and written communication skills
  • don't have niggling injuries or chronic pain (e.g. a bad back, dodgy knees etc.)
  • room to grow within Ideanthro Movement, including the potential to run school holiday classes, workshops and events; we will also assist you to obtain the necessary movement skills relevant to the job.
Time requirements and pay

Time and day of the week: Flexible, but the ideal candidate would initially be interested in Monday afternoons with the potential to grow into some further combination of Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons and Saturdays.

Number of hours: Flexible, however you will initially start with a couple of hours per week, with the opportunity to build from there as demand for our service increases.

Pay rate: Approximately $30 to $40 per hour depending on experience levels and contractual arrangements

Location: Ideanthro Movement at Oxley

Paid training will be provided to the successful applicant for a few hours at a time over multiple days. You will also have free access to our adult group training classes on an ongoing basis to assist you to refine your movement skills.
