About the position:

The City of Greater Geraldton is seeking an Aboriginal Community Development Officer to support the implementation of our Reconciliation Action Plan and contribute to broader community development outcomes.

Location: GERALDTON, Western Australia

Work Type: Full-time or part-time (hours negotiated with the successful applicant)

Description

About the position:

In this role, you will lead initiatives that strengthen relationships, promote cultural understanding and support positive outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. You will also contribute to work that supports culturally and linguistically diverse communities by collaborating with multicultural organisations, community leaders and service providers.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead and support reconciliation initiatives by coordinating the implementation and reporting of the Reconciliation Action Plan 2024–2026, working collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
* Build and maintain strong, respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations to promote cultural inclusion and mutual respect.
* Support engagement that strengthens inclusion for culturally and linguistically diverse communities by working with multicultural organisations, community leaders and service providers.
* Coordinate and support cultural events and programs, including NAIDOC Week, National Reconciliation Week, Harmony Week and other activities that celebrate and strengthen cultural awareness and support cultural diversity.

Position Requirements

This role requires an understanding of the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and the ability to navigate cultural matters with confidence and respect. Experience delivering reconciliation initiatives, including Reconciliation Action Plans, is highly regarded. An understanding of the needs and experiences of culturally and linguistically diverse communities, along with experience working with multicultural organisations or community groups, is also an advantage. Strong communication skills and a commitment to fostering reconciliation, inclusion and community development are essential.

Completion of a pre-employment medical, including alcohol and other substances testing, is required for all positions at the City.

Remuneration And Benefits

This position has a salary starting from $89,127 per annum pro rata or $45.1046 per hour, offered dependent on knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications.
