The Strategy and Commercial Manager, Qantas Freight leads and manages commercial engagements, strategic projects, and investment business cases within the Freight business to support profit growth, drive long-term strategy, and navigate complex customer and supplier relationships. The role will collaborate with other Commercial team peers and the Freight leadership team to determine how Freight will focus resources and capabilities to achieve the Qantas Freight Strategy.
The air freight business has changed fundamentally over the past 3 years with record revenue figures and increased demand for freighter aircraft capacity. Qantas Freight more than tripled in size from the start of the pandemic as the landscape changed opening up significant opportunities that also come with challenges and critical strategic decisions for management. The business includes the domestic freight operation-both PAX belly and domestic freighters, international freighters and Freight terminal operations domestic and overseas. The Freight business currently utilises approximately 18 dedicated freighter aircraft and sells the belly space for all Qantas Group passenger flights.
This role is responsible to contribute significantly to the development of Qantas Freight's strategy and commercial growth, leveraging a strategic toolkit and understanding of international trade and aviation markets. This key role will require thought leadership and collaboration with Sr Managers / Heads Of / EMs across the business to identify, develop and validate strategic priorities (from both a cost and revenue perspective), and strong written and verbal communication skills to make the case for Freight's key initiatives.
In this role you will:
- Develop, define, lead and implement strategic business plan for Qantas Freight in collaboration with Commercial team peers and Freight leadership team
- Design and develop plans for the delivery and/or implementation of strategic products, projects, systems or services to achieve commercial outcomes over a 1-5 year timeframe and within overall business strategy and all compliance requirements
- Assess and recommend different commercial options for commercial negotiations with customers/suppliers across the portfolio to maximise Qantas Freight's customer, operational and commercial position
You'll have
- 8+ years experience in commercial planning, strategy formation, consulting, network planning, aviation management or related field
- Tertiary qualification in business, economics or commercial discipline, MBA or other advanced degree a plus
- Senior stakeholder management ability, strong commercial acumen, and a proven ability to identify and execute business opportunities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills utilising multiple mediums to effectively deliver the correct message to each stakeholder group, especially senior leadership
- Solid understanding of finance and investment case development
- Superior time management and organisational skills with the ability to work on and manage multiple complex issues/work priorities concurrently and independently
