Energy Market Analyst
About the Role:
The Victorian government is accelerating the transition to renewables and setting a target of 95% renewable energy by 2035.
Your Role:
As an Energy Market Analyst, you will play a key role in delivering analysis, insights, and advice to support decision-making across wholesale market operations and energy retailing functions.
Key Responsibilities:
* Modelling and forecasting development – Develop and improve the SEC's market modelling and forecasting capabilities.
* Data collation, management, reporting and visualisation – Work with the team to improve data organisation, interpretation and presentation from various sources.
* Project due diligence – Conduct due diligence on prospective investments and inform valuations of existing assets & contracts.
* Scenario planning and analysis – Support the team in developing alternative views of the energy transition pathway through expert energy market knowledge and exercising professional judgement.
Requirements:
Tertiary qualifications in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Economics or Finance. 3+ years' experience in the Australian energy market, with exposure to wholesale markets, renewable energy, energy retailing, financial markets or trading systems. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and models to generate actionable insights.
Desirable Skills:
* Experience using Plexos for market modelling and analysis.
* Understanding of Victorian Government energy policies, targets and strategic initiatives.
