This role, known internally as the Aunty Bea Ballangarry Fellowship, offers a unique opportunity to lead meaningful research that improves health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and their families. Based in the Faculty of Health, this role is at the heart of the iSISTAQUIT Scale up Project – an evidence based program equipping health professionals with the tools to support smoking and vaping cessation during pregnancy.In this role, you’ll contribute to the success of the iSISTAQUIT and the Birthing on Country initiative, working alongside researchers, health professionals and community leaders to embed lasting change in healthcare settings. Your research will inform policy, influence practice, and strengthen community-led solutions, making a tangible difference in the lives of Indigenous women and their families.Your core responsibilities will include:Undertake research that supports the iSISTAQUIT Scale-Up Project and Birthing on Country initiative.Support the SISTABIRTH project, which explores Birthing on Country strategies in diverse settingsEngage with Indigenous communities, healthcare providers, and policy makers to drive real-world impact.Seek and secure funding to expand research opportunities and deepen project impact.Why Join usBe part of a pioneering research initiative that is making a real difference.Work in a supportive and collaborative team that values Indigenous knowledge and leadership.Build strong partnerships with Indigenous communities and health professionals.Develop your research career with mentorship and opportunities for professional growth.About youThis is an Indigenous identified position. Applicants must identify as an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.We are looking for someone who is deeply committed to Indigenous health and research. You will have:Completion or near completion of a PhD or postgraduate qualification in Indigenous Health or a related field, with relevant experience considered.A passion for community-driven research and culturally safe healthcare solutions.Experience engaging with Indigenous communities, health professionals and policy makers.An emerging track record of research and publication relevant to Academic level.Salary and benefitsOur staff benefit from flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work models, generous parental and carer’s leave provisions, wellbeing initiatives, employee assistance programs and professional learning opportunities. This position is:Full-time, fixed term (2 years)Located at either Coffs Harbour, NSW 2450 or Gold Coast, QLD 4225Academic Level A or B:The base salary for Level B ranges from $110,611 - $130,814 per annum, plus 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation. The total remuneration package is up to $153,052.The base salary for Level A ranges from $78,287 - $105,224 per annum, plus 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation.
