The Falls and Balance Clinic at Monash Health is a specialist assessment service consisting of an innovative multidisciplinary team who will welcome your fresh ideas and approaches. We are looking for a talented Grade 2 Occupational Therapist to join our supportive and friendly team in a permanent ongoing part-time role based at the Kingston Centre in Cheltenham.
A day in the life:
This role is the ideal opportunity for an established grade 2 occupational therapist with experience in the areas of general medicine, neurology and falls, however experienced grade 1 occupational therapists looking to take the next step in their career are invited to apply and will be considered for this role. The Falls and Balance Clinic operates on Friday’s, with flexibility around the second working day.
You will complete the initial comprehensive assessment with the client and their family/carer and ensure all relevant information is available for the diagnostic clinic appointments with the senior physiotherapist and geriatrician. You will often complete an occupational therapy home assessment, assessing for contributing factors to a clients’ falls and/or balance issues within their own environment. You will consider the physical home environment in addition to the client’s cognitive and physical function within it.
You will work collaboratively with our experienced and friendly team to provide education, recommendations and advice to clients, their families and key healthcare professionals. The clinic is assessment based and any recommended ongoing allied health intervention, home modifications and/or ongoing support will be referred onto relevant community services by the team.
You will be part of the wider Monash Health occupational therapy service, committed to excellence in patient care, with access to all the benefits that offers; professional development, broad and specialised clinical experience as well as the opportunity to get involved in training and education. You will be well supported by the senior clinical and management teams as well as the experienced multidisciplinary team, whilst offering autonomy and flexibility in your work.

About You:
In this position you will bring
1. Enthusiasm and an eagerness to learn within the structured outpatient diagnostic setting
2. Passion for providing best practice occupational therapy assessment within the home environment
3. Ambition to grow your clinical skills and expand your knowledge in the area of falls and balance problems, assessment and intervention
4. Collaborative, flexible and proactive approach to working within a small and supportive multidisciplinary team
5. Your effective written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills
6. Your strive toward attention to detail and time-management, in addition to openness to learning and response to feedback
7. Ability to supervise junior staff and contribute to peer-based learning
What you need:
8. Bachelor of Applied Science (Occupational Therapy) or equivalent
9. Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
10. Current Victorian driver’s license
11. SWEP registration (desirable)
12. Previous experience in experience working with older adults with falls and/or balance problems (desirable)
13. Previous experience in public health (desirable)
