About The Role
Reporting into the Curator, you will coordinate operations of the curatorial department and lead a team of Aquarists and Keepers to deliver animal welfare, displays, team development and guest experience objectives. You will oversee teams across freshwater, marine, reptiles, amphibians and Antarctic penguins.
Key responsibilities
Maintain highest animal husbandry, exhibit presentation, technical operation and safety standards.
Monitor public display areas to deliver a World Class guest experience.
Lead Aquarists/Keepers by example and set standards for animal care and professionalism.
Collaborate with Curator and other supervisors to support zone and staff operations.
Ensure correct animal acquisition, breeding, quarantine, transport processes and meet SEA LIFE network requirements.
Manage displays line-budgets with Curator.
Develop and implement policies and procedures to maximise animal husbandry and innovation.
Support SEA LIFE attraction curatorial team members in specific responsibilities.
Assist Curator to develop collection management strategy for all species and displays.
Coordinate with managers and Curator to ensure the team is appropriately staffed and achieves department objectives.
Work with Veterinarian to implement best practice animal health and wellbeing practices.
Build relationships with relevant organisations to promote SEA LIFE attraction.
Deliver animals through acquisition, quarantine and transport in ideal health.
Maintain animal management records according to policy and legislative requirements.
Ensure health and safety policy is strictly followed.
Stay up to date with scientific information for the collection.
About You
Ideal candidate has experience with aquatic taxa, passion for marine environment and public engagement, and proven people leadership skills.
You Will
Have at least 5 years proven aquatic animal husbandry experience.
Experience with Antarctic penguin is desirable.
High degree of supervisory skills in an aquatic display capacity.
Effective empathetic leader with proven ability to lead teams.
Clear communicator, good planner with strong organisation skills.
Problem solving and proactive solution focus.
Qualifications
Certified rescue diver or above.
First aid and O2 provision certificate.
AS**** commercial dive medical and ability to dive regularly.
Bachelor's degree in Zoology or Biology or equivalent Animal Care Diploma.
