We are seeking a highly skilled and qualified Diesel Motor Mechanic to join our team.
2. Purpose of the Role
The Diesel Motor Mechanic is responsible for the diagnostics, repair, servicing, and overhaul of our fleet of heavy vehicles and their components. This role requires a high level of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship to minimize vehicle downtime and ensure compliance with Australian standards.
3. Key Responsibilities and Duties
· Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair on a range of heavy vehicles (e.g., prime movers, rigid trucks, dump trucks).
· Conduct routine servicing and maintenance inspections as per manufacturer and company schedules.
· Overhaul, repair, and maintain major vehicle systems including:
· Engines: Diesel engines (e.g., Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit Diesel).
· Transmissions: Manual, automatic, and electronic transmissions.
· Braking Systems: Air brake systems, ABS, and EBS.
· Electrical & Hydraulic Systems: Wiring, lighting, ECU diagnostics, and hydraulic circuits.
· Steering & Suspension: Heavy-duty steering and suspension systems.
· Perform pre-registration and safety inspections (e.g., NHVAS/CoR inspections).
· Accurately complete job cards, service reports, and parts requisitions using workshop management software.
· Use diagnostic tools, computerised equipment, and hand/power tools safely and effectively.
· Liaise with drivers and operations staff to identify faults and confirm repairs are completed.
· Ensure all work is performed in compliance with company procedures, manufacturer specifications, and Work Health and Safety (WHS) regulations.
· Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop environment.
4. Qualifications and Experience
Mandatory Requirements:
· AQF Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent overseas qualification.
· A minimum of three years of post-qualification relevant work experience as a Diesel Motor Mechanic.
Essential Skills and Knowledge:
· Proven expertise in diagnosing and repairing heavy vehicle mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
· Proficiency in using electronic diagnostic tools and software (e.g., OEM diagnostic programs).
· In-depth knowledge of diesel engine management, air braking systems, and heavy vehicle drivetrains.
· Strong ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
· Excellent problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
· A strong commitment to workplace health and safety practices.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable Skills and Licences:
· Relevant heavy vehicle licences (e.g., HR, HC, or MC class) are highly regarded.
· Experience with specific brands in our fleet (e.g., (list brands like Kenworth, Volvo, Isuzu, etc.)).
· Certification in specific systems (e.g., brake tuning, air conditioning re-gas).
· Experience with welding and fabrication for minor repair work.
· A current driver's licence.
