The Communications directorate works to ensure all our activities enhance the image and reputation of the Department and promote Western Australian Government initiatives in education. We do this by providing a range of services to all areas of the Department including:
* internal and external communications
* communications campaigns and strategies
* brand management
* strategic communications advice
* media strategy and management, stakeholder engagement and relationship management
* public relations and marketing activities for a wide range of programs and audiences.
The Strategy, Stakeholder Engagement and Media team is responsible for the overarching communication strategy and governance, and manages stakeholder engagement, business and media services for the Communications directorate.
Media Relations is specifically responsible for:
* developing media strategy and providing advice to senior leaders
* managing both media responses to incidents or contentious issues and creating proactive stories
* media monitoring and training.
The Role
We are looking for a highly motivated, organised and innovative media specialist with experience in journalism or a media-related role, who is a committed and results driven team player. In this role, you will provide strategic media advice to grow and maintain the reputation of public education in WA through responding to media queries from news outlets, media monitoring, and crisis media management. You will also identify positive opportunities to promote the Department, our staff and student initiatives and achievements to news media.
Our ideal candidate will have extensive experience in a news media environment, the ability to think strategically, analyse and review complex issues and recommend solutions to resolve problems and mitigate risks. You will also use your highly developed communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders and provide strategic media advice to senior leaders.
Successful applicants will also be required to work outside of normal business hours as part of a paid on-call roster, and applicants with public sector experience will be highly considered.
