Overview

ABOUT THE ROLE
Amrize, a leading supplier of quality construction building materials in the United States, has an immediate opening for a Production Supervisor (Paper Science) to support operations at OX Engineered Products Constantine, MI. This position provides ongoing technical support to the production department and primary support for Environmental Regulatory Compliance. Due to the size of the facility, the Supervisor will be involved in multiple aspects of mill management.


What You'll Be Doing

* Provide experienced supervision to support 6 or more shift personnel to ensure manufacturing lines remain in working order.
* Ensure a quality product is manufactured in a safe and cost-efficient manner.
* Respond to emergency issues as required and ensure company policies and procedures are maintained and followed.
* Provide technical support to the manufacturing team.


Job Duties and Responsibilities

* Promote a safe working environment in all interactions with mill personnel and personally follow all safety rules and regulations.
* Improve the reliability of the process control systems, including the DCS system as well as level, pressure and consistency control systems.
* Oversee day-to-day operation of the wastewater treatment facility.
* Perform testing and data entry for Environmental Compliance and work toward obtaining a Certificate of Competency for the facility.
* Prepare capital requests, track project status and the overall capital plan; obtain quotes for equipment and/or services.
* Assist in design of additions/installations; implement daily operations schedules as set forth by the Mill Superintendent to meet production schedules, product standards, and operational costs.
* Operate all prime machines on respective shift and assist operators as necessary to keep lines running; input/review production inventory in the production database for accurate reporting to finance.
* Implement employee schedules as set forth by the Mill Superintendent and adjust as necessary; document attendance appropriately.
* Support training of hourly shift employees to meet daily objectives; coach, motivate, and discipline hourly shift production staff to improve morale and performance standards.
* Document and communicate all issues to the Mill Superintendent and Human Resources.
* Coordinate repairs and preventative maintenance with the Maintenance department.
* Collaborate with the Mill Superintendent to prepare and maintain paperwork for issues such as performance evaluations, time and attendance, downtime reports, absenteeism, and accident reports.
* Protect company property and address emergencies promptly; maintain good housekeeping throughout the facility.
* Set a good example by adhering to time and attendance rules and ensuring coverage for scheduled shifts.


Qualifications

The requirements listed below are conditions of employment and/or representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

* Legal Authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone.
* Applicants must pass a 10-panel drug screen. Alcohol and Marijuana usage during working hours is prohibited; employees under the influence during working hours will be subjected to drug and/or alcohol testing.
* Applicant must authorize a background check.
* Perform all duties in a professional, productive manner with emphasis on Quality, Safety, and Business Ethics Policies.
* Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Pulp and Paper Science, or another engineering discipline.
* Process Control and web handling knowledge; understanding of ancillary technologies related to design and manufacturing of product within paper mills.
* Excellent analytical skills; computer knowledge of Microsoft Office and CAD; strong planning and organizing skills.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced team setting and independently; ability to assume a leadership role on projects; strong interpersonal and communication skills.


Work Environment

* Climate: hot and humid.
* Fumes or airborne particles (dust, smoke); contact with chemicals (cleaners, oils).
* Protective equipment required; work around moving mechanical parts, tools, and machinery.
* Works under the direction of the Engineering Manager and Director of Operations.


Physical Demands

* Regularly lift and/or move up to 15 pounds, frequently lift up to 35 pounds, and occasionally up to 75 pounds.
* Frequently stand, walk, bend and reach (above and below shoulder); occasionally climb, push, or pull items.
* While performing duties, must be able to use both hands, speak, hear, and see.
