Overview
The OrganisationWe are currently partnering with a well-established and growing not-for-profit organisation based in the inner suburbs of Melbourne, easily accessible via public transport. They are seeking an experienced Financial Accountant or Senior Financial Accountant to join the team on a temporary basis to provide cover during a period of parental leave. This contract will commence on Monday 23rd March and run for approximately 8–10 weeks. The organisation operates in a fast-paced and collaborative environment and this role will play a key part in supporting the finance function during this period. This opportunity would suit candidates who are immediately available and specifically looking for contract work, including those currently on a working holiday visa.
The Position
Working closely with the finance team, this role will focus on ensuring accurate financial reporting and supporting the smooth running of the organisation's accounting processes.
Key responsibilities
* Managing fixed asset accounting, including capitalisation, disposals and maintaining the fixed asset register
* Accounting for leases in line with relevant accounting standards
* Supporting weekly and monthly financial reporting requirements
* Assisting with month-end close activities and associated reporting processes
* Preparing and reviewing balance sheet reconciliations
* Supporting acquittal and funding-related reporting requirements
* Assisting with variance analysis and financial performance reporting
* Identifying and implementing improvements to reconciliation processes and financial controls
* Supporting the broader finance team with general financial accounting duties as required
* Contributing to continuous improvement of financial processes and systems

The Profile
To be successful in this role, you will be a capable Financial Accountant or Senior Financial Accountant who can quickly integrate into a busy finance team and contribute from day one.

* Proven experience working as a Financial Accountant or Senior Financial Accountant
* Strong technical accounting knowledge and experience with financial reporting
* Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate financial records
* A proactive mindset with a focus on improving financial processes
* Ability to work independently and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment
* Strong communication skills and a collaborative working style
* Availability to commence on Monday 23rd March and commit to the full contract duration
