About the branch
The Fisheries Management Branch is responsible for developing & implementing policies, management arrangements & administering research & stock assessment processes which are consistent with AFMA’s legislative objectives for fisheries.
The position
As a Fishery Manager you will be responsible for:
- the day-to-day management of specific fisheries; and
- leading and managing a multi-skilled team in pursuit of AFMA’s legislative and organisational objectives as they relate to fisheries management. 
The successful applicant must be able to supervise a small team with staff across multiple locations. A solid focus will be on the candidate’s integrity and ability to communicate, represent AFMA in public and community engagement, build relationships and manage people.
The successful applicant will report to the Senior Manager of the relevant section. 
The primary focus of the position is to deliver ecologically sustainable, cost-effective, and efficient fisheries management services to the government, the fishing industry, and other key stakeholders on behalf of the Australian community.
Capabilities
We are looking for someone who:
- has demonstrated experience leading and managing teams
- can work with a level of independence, under broad direction, with a concurrent need to resolve issues and deliver quality outcomes
- can negotiate and liaise with internal and external stakeholders
- can represent AFMA in consultative forums
- can engage effectively with stakeholders, including the fishing industry and environmental non-governmental organisations.
Eligibility 
Successful applicants will be required to:
- undergo a police record check and obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance
- undertake interstate travel.
- hold or be able to obtain and maintain a valid Australian Government Passport.
Please note applicants must not hold or have held shares or been employed in Commonwealth fisheries in the previous 12 months.
Notes 
- Qualifications and/or experience in fisheries management, marine science or related fields
