The Aluminium and Steel Welder/Fabricator is responsible for fabricating, assembling, and welding metal components using MIG, TIG, and other welding techniques. This role demands precision, technical skill, and the ability to interpret engineering drawings to produce high-quality metal structures and components.
Key Responsibilities
* Interpret Technical Drawings: Read and understand blueprints, CAD models, and fabrication plans.
* Fabrication: Cut, shape, and prepare aluminium and steel components using hand tools, power tools, and machinery (e.g., saws, grinders, plasma cutters).
* Welding: Perform MIG and TIG welding on aluminium and steel to assemble parts and structures.
* Quality Control: Inspect welds and fabricated components for accuracy, strength, and finish; perform corrective actions as needed.
* Equipment Maintenance: Maintain welding and fabrication equipment to ensure safety and performance.
* Workplace Safety: Follow all safety protocols, including PPE usage and safe handling of materials.
* Collaboration: Work closely with fitters, supervisors, and other fabricators to meet project specifications and deadlines.
Required Skills & Qualifications
* High school diploma or trade certificate in welding/fabrication.
* Proficiency in MIG and TIG welding, especially with aluminium and mild/stainless steel.
* Strong understanding of geometric tolerances and fabrication techniques.
* Physical stamina and manual dexterity for handling heavy materials and precision work.
* Familiarity with QA standards and safety regulations (e.g., ISO, AS/NZS standards).
* Effective communication skills for team collaboration and documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience with CNC plasma cutting, press brakes, or robotic welding systems.
* Certification from AWS or equivalent (e.g., AS 1796 in Australia).
* Ability to perform basic calculations and measurements for fabrication accuracy.
