Salary package is subject to working experience.
Task & responsibilities
Conduct research, design and optimisation of energetic compositions by evaluating fuels, oxidisers and additive materials. Apply thermodynamic and reaction engineering principles to improve detonation performance, stability and environmental safety. Undertake laboratory-scale formulation studies and develop scalable process parameters for production environments. Contribute to engineering design reviews and propose new process improvements based on data analysis and testing outcomes.
Design and conduct controlled field-laboratory tests to assess reaction efficiency, detonation characteristics, stability, and environmental impact. Use advanced instrumentation such as vibration, acoustic and gas-emission monitoring to analyse test results. Evaluate risks of soil or groundwater contamination and recommend mitigation strategies. Maintain detailed technical records of test design, methods, results and compliance verification.
Perform engineering assessment of raw materials, ensuring conformance with specifications, performance requirements and safety standards. Work collaboratively with suppliers of fuels, oxidisers and additives to verify product quality and resolve performance or compatibility concerns. Provide technical advice to procurement teams on specification development and material selection. Support continuous improvement of supply chain materials through data-driven feedback and environmental assessment.
Identify chemical and operational hazards associated with formulation, testing and storage of energetic materials. Develop and implement process control systems, pollution prevention measures and safety protocols consistent with industry regulations. Conduct hazard and operability (HAZOP) assessments, risk analyses and environmental impact evaluations. Maintain documentation for regulatory compliance, ensuring adherence to Australian Standards and workplace safety requirements.
Analyse experimental and operational data to produce detailed technical reports, specifications and performance summaries. Prepare environmental and safety reports required by regulatory authorities. Deliver training and presentations to staff and clients on safe handling, testing procedures and maintenance of monitoring systems. Maintain and update internal technical manuals and standard operating procedures.
Oversee the technical procurement, installation and calibration of environmental monitoring and blasting-analysis equipment. Manage liaison with international equipment suppliers, ensuring effective communication and compliance with performance standards. Support clients and internal teams with the commissioning and operation of monitoring instruments. Facilitate updates and training sessions on new environmental and blasting technologies.
