About the Role
We're looking for someone with sound and demonstrated ecological expertise, including excellent knowledge of fire ecology.
You will be looking to use and build on this experience further as you help ensure the best available science and knowledge informs DEW's Fire Management Program.
You will join a small, multi-disciplinary team that works collaboratively with others and is focussed on implementing adaptive management principles to improve ecological and bushfire risk management outcomes.
Knowledge or an interest in other aspects of fire science is also highly desirable.

Essential Criteria (including qualifications)
A Degree in Natural Science, Natural Resources Management or similar is essential.
Has in depth current knowledge and grasp of all relevant aspects of the role of fire in natural systems and the use of fire for achieving ecological outcomes and managing risks
Provides thoroughly researched documents that are expressed concisely, in plain English and in unambiguous terms.
Desirable Criteria
Experience in the use of data and geospatial management and analysis software is highly desirable (eg ArcGIS/ArcGIS Pro, MSExcel, MS Access, MS Power BI R statistical language).
Experience with and knowledge of AIIMSICS and its use in incident management is desirable.
A strong understanding of fire behaviour in South Australian vegetation types is desirable.
Special Conditions
A current Class 'C' driver's licence and willingness and ability to safely operate a 4WD is essential.
Inter and intrastate travel may be required, including occasional overnight absences.
Will be required to undertake a medical and fitness assessment to a minimum standard for a Brigade Role Classification as per the DEW Fire Policy and Procedures and be required to participate in emergency operations.
May be required to work outside of the normal hours of work including weekends, public holidays and days of significant fire danger.
May be required to participate on a roster system for duties associated with emergency response including on call and standby arrangements.
Prior to being employed, the successful applicant will be required to obtain a National Police Check.
Wearing a company uniform during working hours and/or when representing the department is mandatory.
You must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or provide evidence that you hold a valid working visa that allows you to work in Australia without restrictions.
Remuneration
PO2 $88,255 min - $97,667 max p.a.
