National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique opportunity for a Team Leader Rangers to work towards the conservation of the natural environment, flora, fauna, and Aboriginal heritage.
About the Role
The Team Leader Rangers (TLR) is an integral role leading a team of professional Rangers and is responsible for achieving the agency’s goals by setting clear objectives and tasks. The role is highly diverse which is mainly office based but field work in surrounding Reserves is still a regular requirement. The TLR is expected to have a broad understanding of all the Area’s projects and be able to provide advice and assistance as required.
The TLR reports directly to the Area Manager and is expected to work to identify and manage key influences affecting the Area within government and the community. The TLR is regarded a senior management role with significant influence in supporting the Area Manager achieve conservation and community outcomes. The TLR must ensure information flow, planning and reporting relevant to the field operations of the Area plus internal and external projects that may involve contractors.
About You
We are looking for individuals who are passionate about conservation, land management and working collaboratively. Your project planning skills will be key in juggling and meeting competing priorities, while your ability to motivate and influence your team will be the key to achieving outcomes in a busy and changing environment. To be successful in the role, you will also have:
5. strong leadership skills to manage a diverse team in multiple locations
6. very strong facilitation and negotiation skills
7. the ability to juggle competing priorities to meet deadlines
8. a high attention to detail and great communication skills
9. expert project planning skills and discipline to ensure due process is followed
10. sound IT capabilities, particularly in databases, common MS Office software and some GIS experience
11. industry experience including environmental assessment skills.
Essential requirements
12. Current Australian Class C Drivers licence or equivalent.
This is a physically active role suited to candidates of all genders who are fit, enjoy working outdoors as part of a team, and are eager to learn and develop the skills and qualifications needed to contribute toward improving and maintaining some of NSW’s most precious natural places. Applicants must meet the requirements of a firefighting medical which is inclusive of a clearance to undertake frontline firefighting roles. The applicant must pass the task-based fitness assessment to a moderate level within the probationary period (up to 12 months) and annually thereafter.
The role holder must obtain certification at the appropriate level prior to undertaking firefighting/incident control duties.
