Location: Fairbridge Village, Pinjarra, Western Australia
Engagement: Full-time (Negotiable)
A Role With Purpose and Impact
Fairbridge is not a typical organisation. We exist to empower young people for a better future through transformational education. Through our schools, camps, and community programs across Western Australia, we create practical pathways for growth, independence, and self-belief.
This is an opportunity to contribute at a strategic level to an organisation that is both values driven and operationally complex-where financial stewardship directly supports life-changing outcomes.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Chief Financial Officer to provide high-level financial oversight, governance support, and insight to the CEO and Board.
This role is suited to a senior finance professional who values influence over volume, and purpose alongside performance.
The CFO plays a critical role in ensuring that Fairbridge's financial position is strong, sustainable, and aligned with long-term strategic priorities.
The Responsibility
You are working closely with the CEO, Board, and Executive Team, you will:
Strategic Financial Leadership:
• Provide clear, considered financial advice to support strategic decision making.
• Monitor organisational financial health, including cash flow, reserves, and sustainability.
• Identify financial risks and opportunities, with practical mitigation strategies.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
• Oversee the annual budgeting process aligned to strategic priorities.
• Provide forward-looking financial forecasts to guide planning and investment.
• Review and validate budgets across diverse operational areas.
Governance and Reporting:
• Ensure accurate, timely, and insightful reporting to the Board.
• Maintain compliance with Australian Accounting Standards, ACNC, and funding requirements.
• Support audit processes and financial acquittals.
Systems, Controls, and Improvement:
• Strengthen internal financial controls and governance frameworks.
• Guide the development of fit-for-purpose financial systems and processes.
• Support improvements in cost structures and operational efficiency.
Board and Executive Support:
• Contribute to Board and Finance Committee discussions with clarity and insight.
• Support the CEO in preparing board papers and funding submissions.
• Communicate complex financial information into practical understanding.
Organisational Capability:
• Support and mentor internal finance staff.
• Build financial literacy across the executive team.
• Contribute to long-term sustainability models for programs and services.
The Criteria
Essential:
• CPA qualified.
• Significant experience in financial leadership, governance, and strategy.
• Strong understanding of Australian Accounting Standards and regulatory compliance.
• Demonstrated ability to advise Boards or executive teams.
• Ability to communicate complex financial matters clearly and practically.
Desirable:
• Experience in not-for-profit, education, or community sectors.
• Familiarity with funding models across schools, RTOs, or community programs.
• Experience with Xero or similar financial systems.
Why this role is different?
This is not a transactional CFO role.
• You will not be managing large teams or day-to-day finance operations.
• You will be working at the intersection of governance, strategy, and purpose.
• You will contribute to an organisation with strong reserves, real assets, and growth
ambition.
• You will work directly with a CEO and Board committed to long-term impact, not shortterm optics.
Most importantly, your work will help ensure that Fairbridge continues to provide meaningful opportunities for young people who need them most.
