St Michael’s Golf Club is seeking an energetic, professional and development-minded Sports Development Officer / Golf Development Professional to join our team in Sydney. This is an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified golf professional to play a leading role in the growth of our junior, women’s, beginner and pathway golf programs, while also contributing to the broader golf operations of the Club.
About the role
The successful applicant will help lead and grow the Club’s golf development programs, with a strong emphasis on junior golf participation and coaching pathways, women’s golf development, beginner and intermediate player programs, cadet and representative support, school and community golf activities, and longer-term high-performance initiatives. The role may include an initial component of golf operations and golf shop support while the successful candidate establishes and builds their coaching and development portfolio.
Key responsibilities
* Plan, deliver and grow junior golf programs, clinics, camps and pathway initiatives.
* Assist with the delivery and expansion of women’s golf participation and coaching programs.
* Provide individual tuition, group coaching and development sessions for members, visitors, juniors and squads.
* Support the Club’s cadet and representative golf programs, including Saturday program delivery.
* Develop beginner-to-performance participation pathways for golfers of varying ages and abilities.
* Assist with school, community and promotional golf activities that encourage participation in the game.
* Work with management to support future high-performance and golf development initiatives, including the Club’s planned virtual centre and aligned pathway programs.
* Liaise professionally with members, parents, visitors, sponsors, sporting bodies and other stakeholders.
* Assist in the coordination of golf events, competitions, development days and related activities.
* Maintain accurate records of lessons, program participation and development outcomes.
* Provide a high standard of customer service within golf operations and, where required, support golf shop duties including bookings, check-in, retail presentation and member and guest service.
* Uphold the Club’s standards of presentation, communication, professionalism and child-safe practices.
About you
* Experience in golf coaching, sports development or golf program delivery.
* Demonstrated ability to develop and run junior and/or women’s golf programs.
* Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
* A professional, energetic and well-presented manner.
* A genuine passion for growing participation in golf.
* The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
* A willingness to assist across both coaching and golf operations functions.
Preferred qualifications and experience
* PGA Membership, PGA Associate status, or recognised overseas golf coaching/professional accreditation.
* Sports development, coaching or golf academy management experience.
* Experience working with junior golfers, women’s programs and participation-based sports initiatives.
* Experience in club, academy, federation or high-performance golf environments.
* Rules or referee accreditation, or competition administration experience.
* TrackMan, TPI, video analysis or player-development technology exposure.
* Experience delivering clinics, camps, school programs or corporate golf sessions.
* Current Working with Children clearance, or the ability to obtain one.
* Current first aid qualification, or the ability to obtain one.
