About Canberra Glassworks
Canberra Glassworks is Australia's national centre for glass artists, based in the historic Kingston Power House. Since opening in 2007, it has become one of the country's leading contemporary craft institutions, offering studios, residencies, exhibitions, education programs and cultural tourism experiences. Guided by its 2023-27 Strategic Plan, the organisation is focused on high-quality artistic practice, sustainable career pathways, community engagement, cultural stewardship and long-term organisational resilience. Its hybrid model of studio, gallery and creative enterprise positions it uniquely within the national arts landscape.
The Opportunity
This is a rare opportunity to join Canberra Glassworks at a pivotal time in its evolution. Having recently appointed the new Director, we are now seeking an outstanding Deputy Director to act as the organisation's 2IC and senior corporate services leader. Working closely with the Director and Board, the Deputy Director will play a critical role in shaping and delivering organisational strategy, ensuring strong governance, financial sustainability and operational excellence. This is a broad and influential role, balancing strategic oversight with hands on leadership across finance, administration, fundraising and partnerships. You will be central to strengthening the organisation's funding base, refining systems and processes, and supporting long term growth within the Kingston Arts Precinct and beyond.
The Role
Reporting to the Director and working as part of the Executive Team, key responsibilities include:
* Leading finance, HR, administration and operational functions to ensure strong governance, compliance and risk management
* Driving the development and delivery of fundraising, partnerships and funding strategies
* Identifying grants, sponsorships and other funding opportunities aligned to strategic priorities
* Overseeing budgeting, financial reporting, audit processes and performance monitoring
* Supporting the Director with strategic planning, Board reporting and organisational performance
* Managing key external relationships including funding bodies, partners and service providers
* Contributing to a positive, collaborative and high performing organisational culture
The Ideal Person
You are a commercially astute and strategically minded leader who thrives in a dynamic, purpose driven environment. You bring substantial experience across finance, corporate services and organisational management, ideally within the arts, cultural or not for profit sectors. We are seeking a professional with:
* Demonstrated success in fundraising, partnerships and grant acquisition
* Experience leading corporate services functions including finance, HR and administration
* The ability to provide clear, evidence based advice to senior leaders and Boards
* High level written and verbal communication skills
* A collaborative leadership style and the capacity to build trust across diverse stakeholders
* An authentic interest in the arts, craft, design and the creative process
Relevant qualifications in business, finance, legal, arts management or related disciplines will be highly regarded.
This is a career defining opportunity to partner with a newly appointed Director and help shape the next chapter of a nationally significant cultural organisation. At the same time, you will be building your profile as a leader in the arts sector.
