About The Role
As a Software Engineer – Front End Web, you'll be part of the Betashares Direct team, building and evolving our web investing experience for Australian customers. You'll work within a small, AI-fluent, cross‑functional team alongside engineers, designers and product managers, shipping often and building products with real customer impact.
This role sits at the intersection of design, engineering and customer experience. You'll design and deliver high‑quality, customer‑facing software that brings clarity, trust and empathy to every step of a customer's wealth‑building journey. Working closely with the design team, you'll help uplift and evolve our web platform through thoughtful interactions, purposeful animation and strong frontend craft.
You'll also play a key role in advancing our design system and frontend foundations, shaping how design and engineering collaborate and helping the team leverage AI‑driven tools and workflows as we scale. This is a strong opportunity for a senior frontend engineer who cares deeply about product quality, design excellence and building experiences that genuinely help customers.
Role Responsibilities
* Design and build high‑quality, performant frontend features using modern frameworks such as React, Vue and TypeScript.
* Own features end‑to‑end, from concept and design through to implementation and launch.
* Maintain and evolve the frontend design system and component library in close collaboration with design.
* Act as a bridge between design and engineering, shaping workflows, patterns and tooling to improve delivery and quality.
* Mentor junior engineers and contribute to frontend standards, patterns and best practices.
* Explore and apply AI‑enabled tools and approaches to improve developer experience, workflows and product outcomes.
Skills & Experience
* 6+ years' experience building modern web applications in production environments.
* Strong expertise in TypeScript and either React or Vue, with a solid understanding of component‑driven architecture.
* Experience designing, building and maintaining UI design systems or component libraries.
* Strong knowledge of frontend architecture, performance optimisation, accessibility and responsive design.
* Experience working with APIs (GraphQL / Apollo or similar).
* Familiarity with backend systems and distributed architectures is a plus.
* Comfortable using AI tools and emerging technologies to enhance product quality and delivery.
* Strong Git, CI/CD and modern engineering practices.
* Excellent collaboration and communication skills, particularly when working closely with designers and product teams.
