The Finance team consists of the Chief Finance Officer and Deputy Registrar, Financial Controller, Finance Manager, Financial Accountant and two Finance Officers.
The team is responsible for managing the day-to-day financial operations of the organisation and the four schemes covered under our legislation. This includes the accounts payable, receivable and debt management functions, claims processing, management of assets and liabilities including ACT Leave’s investment portfolio, fixed asset and leases, and management of statutory and internal reporting obligations.
The Financial Accountant is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day management of the organisations’ financial operations and for ensuring that statutory legislative requirements under the Long Service Leave (Portable Schemes) Act 2009 and the Financial Management Act 1996 are adhered to. This position reports to the Finance Manager.

The following capabilities form the criteria that are required to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Professional/Technical Skills and Knowledge:
* Experience in key facets of financial accounting such as developing and maintaining Budgets, Financial Statements, cash flows, overseeing creditors and debtors, and statutory (tax) compliance.
* Knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and ability to quickly acquire knowledge of government legislation.
* High level of computer literacy with demonstrated competency in the use of financial systems and Microsoft Office products, in particular excel spreadsheets and accounting software.
* High attention to detail, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Behavioural Capabilities:
* Demonstrated ability to prioritise work tasks for a team and allocate resources appropriately to meet multiple deadlines with quality delivery and outcome in pressure situations.
* Well-developed liaison, negotiation, written and oral communication skills and the ability to foster productive working relationships with stakeholders, customers and work colleagues.
* Understanding of public service values covering ethical standards and demonstrated self-awareness, professionalism and proven commitment to Respect, Equity and Diversity in the workplace and Work Health and Safety principles and practices.
Compliance requirements/qualifications:
* The ideal candidate will have a degree in accounting or finance related discipline. Accounting qualifications (CPA Australia or CA) or working towards qualifications will be highly regarded.
* Educational and professional qualification checks may be undertaken prior to employment.
Notes: This is a temporary position available immediately for period of 12 months with the possibility of permanency. Selection will be based on a written task and interviews. A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill identical vacancies over the next 12 months.
