The Senior Developer is responsible for designing and delivering end-to-end Business Intelligence and database solutions within the department’s Enterprise Reporting and Business Intelligence (ERBI) data warehouse. The role works closely with project managers and stakeholders to ensure solutions are fit-for-purpose and delivered on time.

The department provides a wide range of learning and development support and services.
The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.
About the Division
The Performance and Evaluation Division (PED) collects, analyses and disseminates high-quality evidence to influence decision making across the Department, government agencies and service providers to improve outcomes for children, young people and adult learners. Within PED, the Portfolio Monitoring and Reporting team prepares whole of department reports on the implementation progress of election and in-term commitments, departmental priorities, and BP3 measures for the Secretary, Executive Board, Ministers, and central agencies.
About the Role
The Senior Developer contributes to the development of end-to-end Business Intelligence and Database solutions within the departments existing Enterprise Reporting and Business Intelligence (ERBI) data warehouse. A critical function of the role is to work closely with project managers and stakeholders to ensure data products and solutions are fit for purpose and developed within required timeframes.
The successful applicant will have experience working in an ‘agile' environment and be comfortable in a team of experienced developers. They will possess in-depth knowledge of the latest BI software and technologies, data warehousing and database tools, operating systems, scripting languages and technologies, such as:
- Microsoft BI development (SSAS (MDX, DAX), SSRS, SSIS, SQL Server)
- Dashboard development (Tableau or PowerBI)
- Data Analysis (database analyst) using SQL, Python and/or R
The successful applicant will also be responsible for:
- Contributing to the design and building of solutions including Extract Transform Load (ETL) processes, data models, reports, and security models, applying BI concepts and techniques by following industry practices and standards
- Working within the DMBI team to develop ‘end-to-end' BI solutions from business requirements, solution design and build, testing and deployment.
- Writing well-designed, maintainable and testable code
- Developing specifications and determining operational feasibility of solutions
- Participate in process improvement by actively researching current and innovative technologies and practices.
- Addressing client and user needs as they arise
- Delivering solutions within required timeframes
Experience in the following technologies/capabilities are desirable, but not essential:
- CI/CD (Continuous integration/continuous deployment) using scripting languages or tools such as Azure DevOps
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
Relevant tertiary qualification in Data Analysis, Information Technology, Computer Science or Software Development
