About the Department
Policy and Research Division is part of the Policy & Programs Group. The Division contains three branches, Health & Wellbeing Policy, Perks Policy and Research, Evaluation and Privacy. The purpose of the Division is to design and implement policies to improve the wellbeing of veterans and families.
The Health & Wellbeing Projects Section is responsible for a diverse and evolving work program, including a mix of short and longer-term policy projects, and responding to emerging priorities.
The Section's roles and responsibilities include:
- Providing policy and secretariat support for an inter-jurisdictional working group on veteran incarceration;
- Policy responsibility for DVA's Psychiatric Assistance Dog Program;
- Contributing to the Department's response to the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide;
- Developing timely, high quality policy advice for consideration by the Minister, Commissions, and senior Executives.
Duties:
- Work independently, with limited supervision, to progress agreed objectives and projects.
- Build collaborative relationships with key jurisdictional representatives to agree and progress priorities in relation to veteran incarceration.
- Provide secretariat support to an inter-jurisdictional committee.
- Gather and analyse data and research to develop robust advice on relevant policy issues.
- Draft ministerial and senior executive briefings, reports, Ministerial correspondence, meeting papers and discussion papers.
- Support the team with requests for information, administration, media monitoring and coordination.
- Support DVA's response to the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide.
Required knowledge and experience:
- Expertise in policy development and analysis
- Excellent written communication skills
- Experience providing secretariat support
- Demonstrated stakeholder management experience
- Ability to work independently and show initiative
EL1 hourly rate contracts, 6-months + possible extension
Hobart, Adelaide, Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane
