The Opportunity:
Be at the forefront of strategic climate action and policy innovation
The Department is looking to establish a pool of talented Senior Policy Officers to fill both an immediate permanent opportunity and other upcoming vacancies as they arise.
We are seeking experienced Senior Policy Officers to help shape Western Australia's climate future.
The Net Zero Strategy and Policy Branch leads the development of strategic policies and evidence-based initiatives to support the State's transition to net zero emissions. Our work informs government decisions, drives interagency collaboration, and delivers robust modelling to chart credible pathways for emissions reduction.
As a Senior Policy Officer, you will play a key role in designing and implementing policies that address complex climate and sustainability challenges. You will provide expert advice to senior leadership and Cabinet, manage projects that deliver tangible outcomes, and engage with stakeholders across government, industry, and the community to ensure alignment with State and national climate strategies.
This is an opportunity to contribute to forward-looking strategies that balance environmental sustainability with economic growth, positioning Western Australia as a leader in climate change mitigation.
We are seeking individuals with demonstrated experience in policy development and analysis, strong research and problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly. You will need to manage projects effectively, build productive relationships, and navigate government policy processes with confidence. Knowledge of climate change policy and emissions reduction strategies will be highly regarded.
At the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation, we are committed to fostering a modern workplace that supports flexibility, collaboration, and wellbeing.
Our flexible work arrangements include options for alternative work locations and adaptable schedules, designed to accommodate a variety of professional and personal needs.
We recognise that effective work can happen in different settings, and our approach reflects this, enabling staff to contribute meaningfully while maintaining balance and resilience.
We are committed to creating an equitable and diverse workforce that promotes an inclusive and supportive workplace environment. We value the unique diversity of experience that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people with disability, people from culturally diverse backgrounds, women and youth bring to our workforce.
Join us and be part of a department that values innovation, inclusivity, and the evolving nature of work.
