About the role:
Curtin University is seeking a dynamic and experienced Deputy Chief Information Security Officer (Deputy CISO)** to strengthen and advance our cyber security strategy. This senior leadership role supports the CISO in protecting Curtin's digital environment, leading a high-performing team to deliver excellence across cyber operations, assurance, and governance. The Deputy CISO will play a key role in shaping the university's security posture, managing risk, and driving continuous improvement in a collaborative and innovative environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the day-to-day management of Curtin's Cyber Security team within Digital & Technology Solutions (DTS).
* Oversee operational delivery across cyber operations, assurance, governance, and advisory functions.
* Drive continual improvement of Curtin's security frameworks and ensure alignment with university-wide objectives.
* Manage security incidents, risk assessments, and vendor relationships to maintain robust protection across all environments.
* Support the development and execution of Curtin's Information Security Strategy, ensuring alignment with emerging technologies and compliance standards.
* Provide leadership and mentorship to a talented cyber security team, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and excellence.
Selection Criteria:
You are an experienced information security leader with:
* A degree in Information Security, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
* Proven success as an Information Security Manager or equivalent senior role.
* Strong understanding of risk management frameworks, cyber security strategy, and incident response.
* Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
* The ability to translate complex security concepts into actionable business insights.
* A passion for continuous improvement and a proactive approach to managing emerging threats.
Desirable certifications: Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Information Security Manager (CISM).
Role Requirements
1. Applicants of this position must be an Australian Citizen and be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline Australian Government Security Clearance.
2. Applicants must be willing to undertake a National Police Clearance, and background, integrity, and reference checks to Curtin's satisfaction.
