About Kinaway Chamber of Commerce

Kinaway Chamber of Commerce is the Victorian Aboriginal Chamber of Commerce, supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses to grow, connect and succeed. Kinaway works with Aboriginal businesses, government, corporate partners and industry to strengthen economic participation, increase procurement opportunities and create long-term pathways for Aboriginal business success.

Kinaway plays a critical role in advocating for Aboriginal businesses, building business capability, connecting members to opportunities, and supporting corporate and government partners to improve Indigenous procurement outcomes across Victoria.

Position

The Aboriginal Business Broker will play a key role in supporting Kinaway members to access meaningful procurement, contract and business growth opportunities.

This role will work directly with Aboriginal businesses to understand their capability, readiness, services, growth goals and barriers to participation. The Business Broker will also work closely with corporate partners, government agencies and industry stakeholders to identify upcoming opportunities and connect them with suitable Kinaway members.

The position is designed to strengthen the connection between demand and supply, ensuring Aboriginal businesses are visible, supported and positioned to successfully participate in procurement and supply chain opportunities across Victoria.

Key Responsibilities

* Member Engagement and Business Support
* Build strong and trusted relationships with Kinaway members and Aboriginal businesses across Victoria.
* Meet regularly with members to understand their business capability, services, capacity, growth aspirations and current challenges.
* Support members to become procurement ready, including guidance around capability statements, tender readiness, compliance requirements, business positioning and understanding procurement processes.
* Identify barriers Aboriginal businesses are facing in accessing opportunities, including contract size, payment terms, insurance requirements, tender complexity, capability gaps and lack of visibility.
* Maintain accurate member profiles, business capability information and engagement records to support effective matching with opportunities.
* Identify procurement, contract, subcontracting and supply chain opportunities across government, corporate and industry sectors.
* Work with Kinaway Corporate Partners to understand their upcoming procurement needs, Indigenous procurement targets and areas of spend.
* Match suitable Aboriginal businesses with relevant opportunities based on capability, location, sector, readiness and capacity.
* Facilitate introductions between Aboriginal businesses and buyers where appropriate.
* Track outcomes from introductions, including meetings held, opportunities progressed, quotes submitted, contracts awarded and barriers identified.
* Support the planning, coordination and delivery of Kinaway events, workshops, supplier briefings and networking sessions.

Corporate and Stakeholder Engagement

* Work closely with Kinaway's corporate engagement team to support partners to increase Aboriginal procurement outcomes.
* Provide advice to corporate partners on how to better engage Aboriginal businesses and improve procurement accessibility.
* Support the delivery of networking events, procurement sessions, supplier briefings, industry roundtables and member capability workshops.
* Represent Kinaway professionally at meetings, events and stakeholder engagements.
* Build strong working relationships with government, corporate partners, Traditional Owner groups, industry bodies and relevant business support organisations.

Data, Reporting and Insights

* Maintain accurate records of member engagement, procurement opportunities and business outcomes.
* Prepare regular reports on member needs, opportunities identified, referrals made, outcomes achieved and key sector gaps.
* Contribute insights to Kinaway's advocacy work by identifying common barriers and opportunities for Aboriginal businesses.
* Support the collection and analysis of Indigenous procurement data where required.
* Use data to help Kinaway identify under-represented sectors, emerging opportunities and areas where further member support is needed.

Program and Workshop Support

Support the design and delivery of member workshops focused on tender readiness, procurement processes, capability statements, compliance, business growth and market access.

Work with internal teams to identify members who would benefit from targeted capability support.

Assist with the delivery of Kinaway programs and initiatives that strengthen Aboriginal business participation in major projects, government procurement and corporate supply chains.

Key Selection Criteria

* Strong understanding of Aboriginal business, community and economic development in Victoria.
* Demonstrated experience in business development, procurement, stakeholder engagement, account management, project coordination or business support.
* Ability to build strong, respectful and trusted relationships with Aboriginal businesses, corporate partners, government and industry stakeholders.
* Good understanding of procurement processes, supplier engagement and business capability requirements.
* Strong communication skills, including the ability to write professional emails, reports and briefing notes.
* Ability to identify opportunities and match businesses with relevant buyers or projects.
* Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple relationships, meetings and follow-ups.
* High level of cultural awareness and respect when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, businesses and communities.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Experience working in or with Aboriginal organisations, chambers of commerce, business networks or economic development programs.
* Knowledge of Indigenous procurement policies, social procurement frameworks and corporate supplier diversity targets.
* Experience supporting businesses with tender readiness, capability statements or contract opportunities.
* Existing relationships across government, corporate, construction, infrastructure, professional services or other key industry sectors.

Qualifications and Experience

Relevant qualifications in business, community development, procurement, project management, stakeholder engagement or a related field are desirable but not essential.

Equivalent experience in business support, Aboriginal economic development, procurement, corporate engagement or supplier diversity will be highly regarded.

This role is critical to Kinaway's mission of creating stronger economic outcomes for Aboriginal businesses. The Aboriginal Business Broker will help ensure Kinaway members are not only connected to opportunities, but are supported, prepared and positioned to win work, grow their businesses and contribute to a stronger Aboriginal business sector across Victoria.
