The Head of Portfolio Management Office is a senior leadership role, responsible for overseeing all aspects of RACT’s portfolio of projects and programs that are critical to achieving transformation and operational outcomes.
Reporting to Transformation Director, this permanent full‑time role is pivotal in contributing to strategic planning and successfully leading a team that is focused on delivering strategic outcomes.
This role will collaborate closely with all Executive leaders and their divisions to help design, plan and deliver projects that contribute to the RACT strategy. The role also will have close collaboration with our Technology team to ensure effective delivery is achieved. You will play a key leadership role in fostering the desired behaviours and culture that establishes the PMO to be a trusted advisor and project delivery centre of excellence.
Role specific accountabilities:
Lead the Portfolio Management Office, providing strategic direction that align with RACT’s goals and objectives and oversee a diverse portfolio of projects and programs, contributing significantly to the design, delivery and governance of strategic outcomes.
Collaborate closely with executives, senior leaders and managers across the organisation, fostering effective and trusted communication to achieve and align on portfolio objectives.
Collaborate closely and to develop a successful and productive relationship with Technology Division in understanding portfolio impacts, project planning, delivery and implementation.
Lead and mentor a diverse and distributed team consisting of project managers, business analysts, change and other supporting employees to provide quality outcomes in a consistent way of working within agreed standards.
Provide regular, clear and insightful reports to the Executive Leadership Team and the Board (as required) on the project portfolio, strategic activities, performance, risks and opportunities.
Work with Sponsors to maintain a strong focus on resource allocation ensuring that projects and programs have the necessary resources to succeed.
Contribute and provide specialist advice into to strategic planning activities through project design, governance, reporting, sequencing and budgeting.
Maintain constant oversight, governance and reporting of the portfolio budget and project expenditure and the progress against achieving strategic outcomes developing, implementing and continuously improve a Project Governance Framework to oversee the entire portfolio, balancing project best practice, agility and risk appetite.
Drive a culture of project delivery excellence and continuous improvement within the PMO, establishing best practices, standards and methodologies that adapts to emerging trends and organisational direction.
Identify and manage portfolio risks, proactively addressing issues and implementing mitigation strategies in line with the risk appetite statement.
Successful candidates will have:
Strong collaborative leadership style and strong people skills that encourages open communication and inclusive teaming to assist in the delivery of agreed outcomes.
Demonstrated experience in a senior leadership role overseeing a Portfolio Management Office, Strategic Planning or Transformation function with a track record of successfully managing complex transformation portfolios and programs.
Strong understanding of portfolio and project management methodologies, tools and best practices underpinned by significant exposure and hands‑on delivery of transformation programs.
Exceptional strategic thinking and planning skills, with the ability to align portfolio initiatives with the RACTs strategic vision.
Analytical mindset with a focus on problem‑solving and a commitment to delivering high quality outcomes on time and within budget.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to synthesise and present complex information into Board and Executive‑level reporting.
Partnering mindset, flexibility and adaptability to manage changing work requirements and high volumes of work.
