The role offers the chance to develop your technical expertise, broaden your skills across multiple areas, and grow your career within a supportive and future-focused academic environment.

Who you are

You’re a hands-on, solutions-focused technical professional with expertise in operating, maintaining and troubleshooting specialised equipment across laboratory, workshop or field environments. You take pride in preparing and maintaining equipment, materials and spaces, and in advising and helping students and staff get the most from their practical experiences.

Flexible and adaptable with a focus on safety, you thrive in a busy, ever-changing environment, respond positively to new challenges, and work to ensure teaching and research activities run smoothly. You communicate clearly, approach problems with a practical mindset, and take satisfaction from contributing to high-quality learning outcomes and research success and ensuring students have an engaging learning experience. Collaborative by nature, you build positive working relationships and see the value of your expertise in helping students and staff succeed.

What you'll do

In this role you’ll be part of a collaborative technical team that supports practical teaching and learning across laboratories, workshops, studios and field environments. You’ll assist with preparing classes and practical activities, setting up and maintaining equipment, materials and specialist spaces, and providing hands-on expertise to staff and students during sessions. Day to day you’ll advise students and staff on complex techniques, help monitor safety and compliance requirements, and respond to routine technical enquiries to keep learning and research activities running smoothly, contributing to an effective and engaging practical learning experience for students. As your skills grow, you’ll have opportunities to broaden your expertise across different disciplines and technologies.

Within your first 6–12 months, you’ll establish yourself as a trusted technical resource, help streamline practical workflows, and support high-quality teaching and research outcomes. Your expertise and proactive approach will directly enhance student learning, research capability, and the overall quality of practical programs within the School or discipline.

What will help you succeed

You’ll thrive in this role if you have:
