**The Department**
Social Work at Caulfield Hospital is part of the broader Social Work department at Alfred Health and provides counselling and support to patients and families in the specialty areas of rehabilitation, aged care, home-based care, and aged mental health. Caulfield Hospital provides state-wide rehabilitation services to patients with Spinal injuries, Acquired Brain Injury, Neurological conditions, and Amputees.
**Position Summary**
This exciting, permanent part-time role is based at Caulfield Hospital. The Spinal Service Lead will be responsible for providing Social Work services to the state-wide inpatient spinal unit and will have the opportunity to work across other wards and specialty areas. Engaging and liaising with external organisations and community-based services to address factors that impact treatment, recovery and discharge planning for this specialist patient cohort will be key to this role.
The Spinal Service Lead will oversee the delivery of operational and leadership support to Social work staff in collaboration with the department's Senior Leadership and Management teams. This will include the provision of supervision to Grade 2 Social workers, support and guidance for Grade 1 Social Workers, provision of field education to students and secondary consultation to the spinal Social Workers and the broader multi-disciplinary team. The Spinal Service Lead will also provide clinical leadership by contributing to the ongoing professional development of Social Work staff within the team and demonstrate a commitment to evidence -based practice. They will also be responsible for at least one portfolio.
**Skills/Qualifications Required**
- Applicants must hold a Bachelor's Degree or Qualifying Masters in Social Work
- Ability to lead a team including managing workload allocations and supervision of staff
- Demonstrated experience in supervision of staff and students
- A high-level understanding and knowledge of working with an electronic medical record
- A sound understanding of Aged care and Rehabilitation processes including NDIS, VCAT and TCP processes
**Desirable**:
- Previous experience working with patients within a hospital setting
- Experience in working with patients with spinal injuries
