About the Role and you:
The Melbourne Mavericks are committed to providing an industry-leading environment for players and football staff that supports high-performance outcomes and positive health.
The Team Doctor is primarily responsible for overseeing the health and well-being of our Suncorp Super Netball players, ensuring their safe and effective return to play following injury, and providing expert medical care across all aspects of their performance and health.
This role reports to the Athletic Performance Manager and supports Suncorp Super Netball players with training as well as gameday health, fitness and injury management. The role will assume the responsibility within the team structure for contributing to medical decisions that affect the players' safe participation and will integrate medical expertise with other health care providers, including medical specialist, fitness staff and allied health professionals.
The Team Doctor will be employed as an Independent Contractor on a Medical Services Agreement.
Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct player injury assessments, provide diagnoses, interventions or referrals, and report findings to the Athletic Performance Manager and relevant staff.
* Advise on injury prognosis and performance impact; collaborate on rehab plans.
* Work closely with the Physiotherapist, Dietician, Sport Psychologist, Wellbeing Staff, and external providers to integrate medical care.
* Make medical decisions regarding players' safe participation.
* Determine player readiness for fitness programs, team integration, or return to play.
* Coordinate medical imaging, specialist appointments, and investigations; report outcomes.
* Attend multidisciplinary meetings to monitor player health and fitness; prepare reports with medical and conditioning staff.
* Oversee rehab programs in collaboration with high-performance and allied health teams.
* Maintain accurate medical records and update the club's injury management system per club and league requirements.
* Ensure players' medical wellbeing.
* Collaborate with Australian Diamonds medical staff to optimise player health and performance.
* Operate in accordance with Netball Australia rules, including anti-doping and concussion protocols
Qualifications & Attributes:
* Proven ability to build strong relationships with female athletes, communicate effectively across teams, and work collaboratively within multidisciplinary environments. Demonstrates sound judgment, self-awareness, and a commitment to professional growth.
* Current ACSEP Fellow, Senior Registrar, or experienced Doctor in elite sport settings. Holds a medical degree with significant postgraduate experience in sports injury management, including women's health. Deep understanding of sports culture and Sport & Exercise Medicine.
* Maintains current AHPRA registration, appropriate insurance, National Police Clearance (or ability to obtain), and a valid driver's license. Experienced in working independently with high levels of accountability and organisational skill.
