The opportunity
The College is seeking applications for an experienced Bus Driver who will join the team in 2025 to operate our Lakeland to Cooktown AM and PM Bus Service. With this position, we are offering additional grounds and maintenance hours should you be looking for a more full-time role. Suitable applicants must align with the College faith, values and ethos and it would be advantageous if the applicant had previously worked in bus operations. This is a part-time contract position for 4-5 days a week (Term Time - 40 weeks).
The School Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting students to and from school, extracurricular activities, and field trips in a timely and professional manner. This role requires adherence to all local, state, and federal transportation laws and school district policies while maintaining a safe and supportive environment for students.
Key Responsibilities:
* Operation of relevant machinery including driving a bus
* Complete all morning and afternoon bus runs to Lakeland and possibly excursion and camp runs as required during term time.
* Attend all driver training as required and comply with all requirements of the training.
* Ensure that a high level of bus safety is maintained and that students follow the instructions for safe bus travel.
* Be able to communicate effectively with students, parents and the general community as required in a polite and professional manner.
* Ensure that all procedures and documentation complies with the Transport Manager's directives and all College administrative and safety policies.
* Complete all bus documentation accurately including bus logs and student behaviour breaches.
* Maintain a clear driving record.
* Provide detailed reports of student behaviour breaches.
* Regularly clean the buses including washing the outside, sweeping and vacuuming the inside floor and wiping the seats and windows.
* Hold a minimum MR QLD Drivers Licence and Drivers Authority.
* Following communication procedures, guidelines and policies as set our by Christian Community Ministries (CCM) and the College.
* Participating in meetings as required.
* Participate in an annual medical/functional assessment.
* Have a valid First Aid and CPR Certificate.
* Abide by CCM Bus Operations Policy and Christian ethos.
Working Conditions:
* Work hours typically coincide with school start and dismissal times; may include occasional evenings or weekends for field trips or special events.
* Exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
* Ability to sit for extended periods while driving and to assist students as needed.
Requirements:
* Ability to safely operate a bus, including steering, braking, and checking mirrors.
* Ability to run routine checks as required.
* Ability to lift and secure child safety equipment if required.
* Hold a Blue card (WWC) or ability to obtain.
The additional grounds and maintenance hours will be discussed with the candidate, however this will include general gardening and grounds maintenance.
A Pre-Employment Functional Assessment will also be required to ensure the employee has the capacity to perform the inherent requirements of the role.
