Position overview

Under the Bureau's 2022-2027 Strategy, the Energy & Resources (E&R) Program (part of the Business Solutions Group) is responsible for delivering an additional $335m of impact and value to improve the safety, reliability, resilience and productivity of the energy and resources sectors in Australia and the Asia-Pacific Region.

The E&R Service Delivery Manager, under the direction of the General Manager E&R and as part of the broader E&R team, is responsible for overseeing the design, quality, and delivery of operational services. This exciting role will focus on high quality, reliable and value-adding services to the Australian energy and resources sectors and perform a critical role in leading the strategic direction of E&R service delivery.

The primary responsibilities for this role include leading the E&R service delivery team to deliver accurate, timely and effective E&R meteorological services as well as overseeing the strategic direction of E&R service delivery. The role will contribute to the strategic planning of the E&R program and will have accountability for staff development, capability building, scientific development, quality assurance and both operational and customer outcomes. An understanding of the energy and/or resources sectors, science and operational forecasting is essential to the success of this role.

The role will contribute to the Bureau's operational excellence through collaboration with Environmental Prediction, Decision Support Services and National Production teams in the Community Services Group, and other national operations teams who serve the Bureau's focal sectors including Aviation and National Security. This role will also work closely with our Science and Innovation Group to ensure E&R services meet (and exceed) customer requirements.

The successful candidate will be an experienced and motivated people-centered leader and will provide leadership and technical competency to a team working towards an agile E&R operations approach. You will be a strong communicator with excellent interpersonal, technical and customer relationship management skills. You will be energised by the challenge of delivering high quality services in a commercial environment.

Role responsibilities

The E&R Service Delivery Manager will work independently, under broad direction, to deliver on the Bureau's strategic objectives. You will contribute to the delivery of services by planning, leading, and coordinating the E&R Lead Operational Meteorologist group to steer and foster the quality and resilience of the Bureau's national operations.

As the E&R Service Delivery Manager, you will ensure the ongoing professional development of E&R Operational Meteorologists through mentoring, performance management and training. In addition, you will coordinate studies and investigations into weather-related events, and through close liaison with relevant professional and technical staff, seek improvements in forecast process, efficiency, and accuracy.

You will also coordinate and participate in the design, development and implementation of projects aimed at improving procedures, products and services and incorporating research and development into operations. The role will participate in the strategic and quality management of E&R operations, ensuring that services are commercially competitive, delivered in an efficient and effective manner, relevant to customer needs and to a consistently high standard, you will lead identification of process, product and service efficiencies and work across the E&R teams to plan and implement improvements.

The E&R Service Delivery Manager is also responsible for maintaining and promoting close liaison with the E&R customers and the energy and resources sectors, keeping informed of the latest developments. As part of the E&R Leadership Team, the E&R Service Delivery Manager works closely with the Energy and Resources Sector Leads, the E&R Solutions Lead, the E&R Projects Lead and the E&R Business Manager and provides sound advice to Bureau management.

Mandatory qualifications:

A degree or diploma of an Australian educational institution, or a comparable overseas qualification, which is appropriate to the duties; OR other comparable qualifications, which are appropriate to the duties.
