The Role:
Tassal is seeking an experienced and dedicated Senior Hatchery Technician to join our team at our prawn farm in Mission Beach. This role is critical in overseeing the commercial production of high-quality post-larvae, driving efficiency, and ensuring the highest standards of operation.
You will be responsible for the day-to-day operational planning and leadership of the hatchery team, ensuring all safety and biosecurity protocols are strictly implemented. Your expertise will contribute to optimising hatchery performance, implementing innovative technologies, and maximising product quality and profitability.
Responsibilities:
* Oversee the day-to-day commercial production of post-larvae, including animal husbandry, water quality management, feeding regimes, and system maintenance.
* Uphold and enforce stringent safety and biosecurity protocols.
* Provide guidance, mentorship, and technical leadership to team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture.
* Track and analyse production metrics and system performance to ensure optimal outcomes and support data-driven decision-making.
* Proactively identify, troubleshoot, and resolve operational challenges, escalating critical issues in a timely manner.
* Assist in planning daily operations, refining standard operating procedures, and implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
* Ensure all activities adhere to workplace health and safety standards, aquaculture regulations, and company policies.
Role Requirements:
* Proven background in aquaculture, preferably within a hatchery or broodstock production environment.
* Strong understanding of animal husbandry, water quality management, and biosecurity best practices.
* Deep understanding of protocols for water filtration systems and RAS systems operations.
* Demonstrated leadership capability with experience in training, developing, and guiding a team.
* Meticulous attention to detail with a proactive, continuous improvement mindset.
* Strong problem-solving aptitude and the ability to prioritise and make decisive decisions.
* Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.
* Proficient with computers or has intermediate computer literacy
* A qualification in Aquaculture, Marine Biology, or a related field is advantageous but not essential.
