The Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) is part of the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. As primary agency for Australia's Antarctic Program (AAP), the AAD is responsible for achieving the Australian Government's Antarctic goals.
These goals are to:

* maintain the Antarctic Treaty System and enhance Australia's influence within it
* protect the Antarctic environment
* understand the role of Antarctica in the global climate system
* undertake scientific work of practical, economic and national significance.

The AAD also has responsibility for administering the Australian Antarctic Territory and the Territory of Heard Island and McDonald Islands.

The Operations and Logistics Branch oversees our operations in Antarctica – supporting people in our year-round research stations and remote field bases. The branch oversees air and sea transport (and the contracts to manage Australia's icebreaker, the RSV Nuyina and Aviation capabilities) to transport expeditioners south and enable them to travel around Antarctica. We have staff with diverse skills, located primarily in Tasmania, in Antarctica and on Macquarie Island.

The key functions of the Maritime Asset Management Section include:

* Management of the Department's shipping operations and asset management contract(s).
* Governance of RSV Nuyina's reporting, asset management, planning, quality assurance and financial obligations.
* Oversight of internal and external certification, safety management, environment and biosecurity management and voyage/season planning.
* Lifecycle management, configuration management, planned maintenance, defect management and forward planning for capital improvement and safety enhancement.
* Coordination of procurement and subsequent management of supplementary shipping contracts.
The key duties of the position include:
* Provide leadership, direction and support within the Maritime Asset Management Team by fostering a strong culture of safety, inclusion, equity and flexibility.
* Manage individual and contractor performance, assess behaviour and work competency, and provide regular and constructive feedback, counselling and reporting.
* Coordinate functional interfaces between RSV Nuyina and the ship's supporting capabilities including:
o Aviation Services
o Polar Medicine Unit
o AAD Maritime Operations – Watercraft
o Serco AP Watercraft Operations
o Station and Field Operations
o ICT and Satellite Communications
o Protective Security – including compliance with the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF)
o Expeditioner Training
o Port of Hobart
* Development of key processes and procedures in support of functional maritime asset interfaces.
* Work closely with and in support of the Capability Management, Contracts and Governance, Assurance and Compliance and Technical and Engineering teams within the Maritime Asset Management Section.
* Assist projects relating to the procurement of supplementary shipping services to the AAP in accordance with Commonwealth Procurement Rules.
* Lead or co-ordinate projects relating to the introduction of new processes and procedures and maritime interface capabilities.
* Manage budgets and financial processes, including operational and capital expenditure programs, in line with policies to achieve the Department's strategic goals.
* Physical and electronic record management.
* Implement Government policies on behalf of the AAD with limited direction from the Director, Maritime Asset Management.
* Any other duties as necessary in support of the Maritime Asset Management team's primary functions.

Eligibility
* Citizenship - to be eligible for employment with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water you must be an Australian citizen.
* Security Clearance - this position requires a Baseline Vetting security clearance. You will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
* Pre-employment checks - your suitability for employment will be assessed through a pre-employment screening process. This process includes a requirement to undergo and satisfy a National Police Check, referee checks, character clearance and where required a pre-employment medical assessment, specified mandatory qualification(s) validation and a probation period.
