About the role

The Cloud Enablement team are super excited to announce we are SEEKing a Staff Engineer with strong Technical Leadership skills to help drive the future direction. This role will focus on the design and delivery of fit for use products.

A Staff Engineer is a technical specialist role and senior member of the Cloud Enablement team within SEEK's Enterprise Technology Group. A Staff Engineer is a sub-domain subject matter expert, whose primary focus is to partner closely with Engineers, Engineering Managers, Heads of Engineering, Architecture, and Heads of Product to drive the best practices for Cloud usage at SEEK and direction for the Cloud Enablement team.

Day-to-day, you will work collaboratively with members of our team, creating roadmaps, resolving technical challenges and setting the technical direction, as well different stakeholder across multiple teams in which you work and support the resolution of technical issues and decisions as the need arises.

A Staff Engineer advocates for, and empowers, technical best practices which support the usage of Cloud across multiple teams or technology specialisations. You will be accountable for advocating clean, scalable solutions, ensuring high development practices and standards.

You will have opportunities to help shape broader patterns and practices through the tools and platforms we design and implement across SEEK, there are also opportunities to do hands-on coding. You will drive the alignment of your team's technical roadmap to SEEK's overall technical strategy. You will also provide people leadership through mentoring, developing and may also line manage other engineers.

About the team

So, what is Cloud Enablement?
The Cloud Enablement team's role is to provide a stable, secure and optimised cloud for all SEEKers enabling engineering teams to use cloud technology by providing services and prescriptive guidance that promotes agile, autonomous delivery and supports business transformation. The team is split into a FinOps, Engineering and database support squads

Responsibilities

Build

3. Ensure the services /systems / platforms within your sub-domain are fit for purpose, well architected, have roadmaps and follow current SEEK development practices

4. Deep dive on technical issues within team and across SEEK as the need arises

5. Drive automation and orchestration efforts to optimise cloud operations and reduce manual intervention.

6. Uplift and embed Cloud technical best practices across Engineering teams

7. Drive platform health by ensuring that our systems are aligned to SEEK's technical metrics

8. Uplift and embed technical practices in Cloud Enablement leading a DevOps Culture

* Be a technical escalation person who owns and addresses production incidents through to resolution

Execute

9. Be the key point of contact for how other sub-domains interface with your area's systems/tools/platforms and technical solutions

10. Build strong relationships with technical stakeholders including Architecture, Security and other technical teams

11. Effectively facilitate, influence and negotiate technical discussions for SEEK wide Cloud initiatives

12. Support the Head of Cloud Enablement in Capacity Planning, Risk management, scoping, and prioritisation of technical work

13. Strengthen engineering discipline and technology capability across sub-domain

14. Provide technical guidance and break through blockers in technical matters and decisions

15. Uplift and align security practices across multiple teams. Collaborates with Security to ensure alignment of best practice across their Sub-Domain.

16. Advocate writing clean, well-tested, readable software, using secure coding practices, current patterns and tooling as required

* Consider customer outcomes and how your systems/software/platforms across your sub-domain connect to their needs

Support

17. Provide guidance to make it easier for teams to use cloud technology, supporting faster, more independent delivery and business transformation

18. Help guide Engineers to drive platform health in their teams by ensuring that our systems are aligned to SEEK's technical metrics

19. Strengthen the technical capabilities of your sub-domain by proactively identifying and nurturing engineering talents and future technical leader

20. Grow Engineer technical leadership capabilities through coaching, mentor and example behaviour

21. Support the wellbeing of the team by fostering a culture of safety, inclusivity, diversity and engagement

* Act as a SEEK engineering ambassador and help attract technical talent

Strengthen

22. Key contributor to the engineering community at SEEK (e.g.: Open-source projects, Mentoring, Guilds)

23. Develop a profile within the external engineering community (e.g.: Conference coordination, meet-up management)

* Proactively seek out learning opportunities for self and others through inviting and providing regular feedback

Qualifications
24. Experience partnering with senior stakeholders (e.g., Engineering Managers, Architects and Product Managers)

25. Experience with architecting and designing Cloud Solutions (preferably AWS)

26. Experience creating product roadmaps/strategies

27. Experience with Finops and cloud cost optimisation

28. Experience with creating/driving automation and orchestration

29. Prior responsibility for the development & maintenance of a service / system / platform's health in accordance with key technical metrics

30. Ability to effectively influence and negotiate with others, including senior stakeholders

31. Experience collaborating with technical leaders and the wider technical community to assess and implement new methodologies and technologies

32. Experience identifying and connecting Platform Teams with technical growth opportunities

33. Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Google Professional Cloud Architect, Azure Solutions Architect) are a plus.

34. Ability to operate in a team with geographically distributed team members

35. Prior experience in one of the following technology roles would be considered essential: Cloud Platform Operations/Engineering, Software or Infrastructure architecture

* Demonstrated ability to champion and influence design decisions and adoption across an enterprise
