More about the program: What we do - Hunter Class

About the OPPORTUNITY:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Technician to join the Power and Propulsion team working within the Test & Commissioning (T&C) department on the Hunter Class Frigate Program with BAE Systems.

As part of the T&C team and reporting to the Lead Technician, you'll play a key role in conducting Set to Work (STW) activities, testing, commissioning, maintaining, and ensuring the operation of the Hunter Class Frigate (HCF) ships systems. Specifically, we are seeking an individual with experience working on the mechanical elements of Power and Propulsion systems, ideally in maritime or a relevant T&C environment.

Based at our Osborne Shipyard in Adelaide, we offer flexible work options, including hybrid arrangements and a 9-day fortnight to help you balance work and life. Mobility support is available for regional or interstate candidates.

Key RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Conduct STW, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of the mechanical elements of Power and Propulsion systems.
* Train and qualify as an Authorised Individual to operate and maintain HCF systems.
* Bring your technical expertise to the team—share knowledge, drive best practices, and foster continuous improvement.
* Plan, check, and carry out mechanical isolations of the ships' Power and Propulsion systems.
* Complete test, maintenance, and STW documentation using relevant digital tools.
* Work closely with the HCF T&C Lead Technician to execute the T&C program.
* Assist in training and upskilling staff, ensuring critical skills are shared across the team.
* Ensure all work meets WHS legislation and BAE Systems SHE policies.
* Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Operations, and Support Systems teams to deliver safe, effective solutions.

About YOU:

* 5-10 years of experience in the mechanical elements of Power and Propulsion systems.
* Experience in test and commissioning of complex systems.
* Hold a relevant mechanical qualification that's industry recognised.
* Strong problem-solving and teamwork skills to tackle technical challenges across functions.
* Skilled in planning and coordination to keep tasks on track.
* Experienced in computer-based commissioning documentation, risk assessments, and work instructions.
* Professional, technically sharp, and capable of working independently.

We believe in hiring for potential, and we encourage candidates who may not meet all criteria to still apply if interested.
