Overview

Aboriginal Provisional Psychologist | Psychologist – Orana Youth Justice Centre, Youth Justice

Organisation: NSW Department of Communities and Justice

Role type: Temporary Part time (21 hours per week) up to 12 months

Location: Dubbo

Salary: $79,592 - $139,824 pro rata, plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading

Note: This position is open to Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people only.


What You'll Do

* Be part of a team of experienced Youth Justice Psychologists reporting to a Clinical Manager, providing psychological support within the Community and Custody setting.
* Undertake psychological assessment, intervention, and deliver therapeutic services or programs to young people who offend, including those who sexually offend.
* Create holistic treatment plans to support the needs of young people, their families and community.
* Assist in the formulation and review of individual Risk - Needs - Responsivity based case plans for the management and supervision of young people on remand or sentenced to a custodial or community order.
* Engage with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations in a respectful and collaborative manner.
* Liaise with a range of professionals including Aboriginal Caseworkers, Aboriginal Practice Officers, the YJNSW Aboriginal Strategic and Co-ordination Unit, Koori Children's Court, Psychiatrists, Registered Nurses and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers.
* Deliver training to staff, including Youth Justice Caseworkers, in the screening, identification and support of young people with mental health problems, intellectual disability or cognitive impairment.
* Maintain confidential documentation, including electronic Case Notes on Client Information Management System, in accordance with departmental policies, APS guidelines on record keeping and professional ethics.
* Prepare reports, advice, and consultation to statutory authorities such as Children's Courts, the Serious Young Offenders Review Panel, State Parole Authority, and Mental Health Review Tribunal.
* Be dynamic and able to think on your feet; responsive to individual needs and situations.


What We're Looking For / Qualifications

* Minimum four-year accredited qualification in psychology
* Current provisional or full registration (Clinical Psychology registrar) with the Psychology Board of Australia
* A current Driver's Licence with ability and willingness to travel throughout NSW
* Current NSW Working with Children Check clearance
* Aboriginality
