About the Role
As an Accessibility Support Practitioner (ASP), you will provide in‐class learning support to students with a broad range of learning access and support needs, including disability, mental health needs, neurodivergence, health conditions and other barriers to learning.
This educational support role focuses on helping students engage in learning, build confidence, and develop independence throughout their studies. It is not a personal care or behavioural support role. You will work alongside students in vocational education classrooms, reinforcing learning, breaking down tasks, supporting engagement, and encouraging independence.
Work will take place across various vocational learning environments including trades, foundation studies and classroom‐based programs, collaborating closely with educators and the Accessibility team. Casual opportunities with shifts during teaching periods are available; hours are not guaranteed but rosters are provided well in advance where possible.
Responsibilities
- Provide classroom learning support to students with diverse needs.
- Assist in breaking down and explaining learning tasks.
- Encourage independent learning and engagement.
- Collaborate with educators and the accessibility team to tailor support plans.
- Maintain accurate records and comply with workplace safety and data protection requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
- Qualifications in Disability, Education Support, Community Services, Mental Health, Allied Health, Youth Work, or a related field.
- Experience supporting people with disability, mental health needs, neurodivergence or complex barriers.
- Understanding of inclusive education, trauma‐informed practice, and cultural safety.
- Confidence using digital tools and willingness to learn assistive technologies.
- Experience in VET or adult education settings (desirable).
- Familiarity with UDL principles and learning adjustments (desirable).
- Experience supporting students from CALD backgrounds, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, LGBTQIA+ communities or with intersecting identities.
