Senior Systems Engineer | Contract | Microsoft Stack
* 3 month contract
* 1 day WFH, 4 days onsite in Preston
* Rate $650 -$750/day inclusive
The Senior Systems Engineer will contribute to strategic initiatives, continuous improvement, and ongoing technical operations. Furthermore, they will provide support, guidance, and coaching to other teams within the organisation to maximise solution value.
The position reports to the IT Systems Engineering Team Lead and works with internal team members, external vendors, and partners. Aside from fellow Systems Engineers, the most frequent collaboration occurs with Cloud Engineers, Software Engineers, Architects, and DevOps Engineers.
Additionally, the position regularly collaborates with Project Managers, Security Engineers, Network Engineers, Database Engineers, Backup & Recovery Engineers, and Infrastructure Engineers.
RESPONSIBILITIES
DELIVERY AND OPERATIONS
* Collaborate with project teams to plan, design, and implement solutions across cloud and on-premises infrastructure.
* Proactively monitor and operate infrastructure systems and solutions.
* Produce and maintain knowledge and technical resources for the delivery and operations of technology solutions.
* Contribute to the resolution, root cause analysis, and preventative measures of alerts and incidents.
* Identify, assess, and share risks, issues, and dependencies.
* Validate and remediate solution compliance with organisation policies and our regulatory environment.
* Oversee and provide feedback on solution deliverables.
* Design infrastructure, platform, and tooling solutions in collaboration with stakeholders

* Implement and maintain controls and processes to provide prompt feedback on quality.
* Administer and enhance tools for technical delivery and operations.
* Identify, advise, and implement continuous improvement across the technology landscape.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
To succeed in this role, you will need:
* Extensive experience with System Engineering practices. This role contributes to our technology strategy. You'll need hands-on experience of what does and doesn't work to succeed.
* A robust knowledge of the Microsoft stack, particularly with Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, M365, and messaging services.
* Expertise with networking services such as DNS and DHCP.
* A sound understanding of technical delivery tools such as Source Control Management (SCM) and Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD).
* Exposure to system design principles. This role will be required to contribute to end-to-end system design.
Highly desirable skills include:
* Platform engineering. The ability to scale will depend on creating highly reusable solutions that teams can autonomously consume and contribute to.
* Observability. The technology solutions will support many organisational objectives. You'll need to know about issues before they occur and contain their impact.
* Security best practices. It will be a critical factor in everything designed and built, and an ideal candidate will help define what "right" looks like.
* Networking. It underpins the connectivity between everything built. Understanding core networking principles such as routing and firewalls goes a long way.
* Physical hardware, virtualisation, and Linux Operating Systems. Plenty of solutions to analyse and evaluate the best hosting platform.
