About the role
We are currently recruiting two Senior Advisor, Student Misconduct and Appeals (Non-academic) positions. within the Corporate Governance Team, Governance Support Unit.
The Senior Advisor, Student Misconduct and Appeals (SMA) works in a small team that leads the University's holistic approach to student misconduct, an integral component in the protection of the University's core values of respect, equity and inclusion. The Senior Advisor is a key enabler for the management and resolution of all incidents of non-academic (behavioural) student misconduct across the University, including matters involving gender-based violence, sexual harm, harassment, discrimination, bullying and other forms of harm governed under regulations including the National Higher Education Code to Prevent and Respond to Gender-Based Violence.
About You
As the Senior Advisor, you will:
• Provide senior leadership support in the management of non-academic student misconduct by applying University rules and policies, assessing and managing cases, issuing procedurally fair and trauma-informed allegation letters, and advising on decisions and appeals with consideration to safety, wellbeing and legislative requirements.
• Provide strategic and operational advice to staff, students and others (both internal and external to the University) on a range of complex and significant matters, including interpretation and application of relevant legislation, the National Higher Education Code, and regulatory expectations relating to gender-based violence.
• Provide support to the establishment then operation of student misconduct and appeals (SMA) inquiry and appellant bodies as designated. This includes the preparation of high level reports and advice for committees and relevant senior staff.
• Assist in the development and ongoing improvement of a University-wide framework (policies, rules, procedures, resourcing and support systems) for the effective and efficient management of all non-academic misconduct cases.
• Support the development and implementation of proactive, professional communication, induction and education programs to promote knowledge and awareness of the University's Rules relating to student non-academic misconduct, the values of academic integrity, and the availability of support services. Through these programs help facilitate the reduction in incidence of student non-academic misconduct cases.
With examples from your previous work experience, please outline, in a separate document, how you meet the following five selection criteria points below:
1. Well developed research and investigative skills and a capacity for systematic thinking and ability to analyse information and situations, identify issues, assess impacts and to propose options and recommendations based on sound rationale.
2. Ability to interpret and apply rules, policies and legislation and to understand and work within the principles of natural justice.
3. A sound understanding of the University governance system and the relevance of Rules within this system, particularly in relation to Rules pertaining to the administrating of disciplinary action for student academic and non-academic misconduct.
4. A sound understanding of the principles of natural justice and how they would be applied in the collection and presentation of evidence and the conduct of hearings.
5. Previous experience in implementing case management methodologies and administrative systems.
Remuneration & Benefits
Base Salary Range: $120,827 to $137,609 pa (HEW 8)
This role attracts 17% superannuation in addition to the base salary.
