The People and Organisational Strategy Branch is looking for a skilled and motivated Assistant Director to join the Workplace Relations Team.
As Assistant Director, you will have functional responsibility for workplace conduct and complaints but will also work cross-team to support employment relations matters and enterprise bargaining.
Leading a small team, you will undertake work that is complex and sensitive. You will operate under broad direction while exercising a significant degree of independence, sound judgement and evidence-based decision making.
Key responsibilities
As Assistant Director, Workplace Relations you will:
* Lead and manage complex casework involving workplace complaints, misconduct and behavioural concerns, including:
*
o Investigating (and oversighting investigations into) workplace complaints and suspected breaches of the APS Code of Conduct.
o Managing and continuously improving fair, timely, and proportionate complaint triage, assessment and resolution processes (including early intervention, preliminary assessments, investigations, and alternatives such as management action or alternative dispute resolution).
* Lead and manage primary reviews of action.
* Support the development, negotiation, and implementation of future enterprise agreements. This includes preparing negotiation materials, engaging with stakeholders (such as employees, unions, and leadership). participating in negotiations and ensuring compliance with applicable legislation and policy frameworks.
* Lead the development, consultation and implementation of employment policies, procedures and guidance materials, for example to support the Treasury Enterprise Agreement 2024-2027.
* Provide expert advice and guidance to delegates, senior executives, managers, and employees across the department on matters relating to conduct and complaints, consultation obligations and processes, and the application of employment policies and the Treasury Enterprise Agreement 2024-2027.
* Leading, supporting, and developing team members.
* Other duties as directed by the Director, Workplace Relations.

* Excellent oral and written communication skills, with an ability to confidently liaise with and brief internal and external stakeholders across all levels, including senior executives.
* An ability to interpret legislation, policies and procedures.
* An ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
* Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks.
* An ability to handle sensitive information in accordance with government security requirements.
Highly desirable qualifications include:
* Certificate IV in Government Investigations (or a higher qualification).
* Tertiary qualifications in law/employment law or human resource management.
